Architecture Definition & Governance
Define and maintain the end-to-end software and infrastructure architecture for products based on an HCIplatform (Hyper Converged Infrastructure )
Specify architecture scope, interfaces, responsibilities, and constraints
Ensure architectural consistency across virtualization, deployment, networking, and security domains
Platform & Virtualization Architecture
Architect solutions supporting multiple hypervisors, including XCP-NG (Xen-based virtualization) andKVM-based platforms such as Harvester
Define deployment models for Linux-based operating systems and application images
Guide adaptations of deployment and orchestration tools to support these platforms
Ensure scalability, availability, and maintainability of cluster architectures
Deployment & Tooling
Define architectural requirements for deployment automation and lifecycle management
Contribute to the evolution of deployment centers, pipelines, and tooling supporting cloud based platform usecases
Promote reuse of existing tools, frameworks, and commercial or open-source solutions (COTS) whereappropriate
Administration & Operability
Identify and formalize administration use cases for virtualized environments (e.g., start/stop workloads, lifecycle operations, monitoring)
Define architectural options for common administration across heterogeneous hypervisors Assess the feasibility of orchestration or overlay solutions enabling system-level startup and control
Network & Infrastructure Sizing
- Define network architecture principles, including: o VLAN design o High-bandwidth requirements (e.g., 10G) o Avoidance of unnecessary network complexity
- Ensure alignment with system and infrastructure architecture constraints
- Security & Compliance Ensure architecture compliance with secure boot and platform security principles Collaborate with cybersecurity stakeholders to validate system hardening and trust chains
- Integrate security considerations by design (defense-in-depth, least privilege, lifecycle security)
- Obsolescence & Sustainability Identify and assess technology obsolescence risks (e.g., hypervisor lifecycle evolution)
Competencies & Skills
Strong knowledge of Linux systems and low-level OS concepts
Solid understanding of virtualization fundamentals (VM lifecycle, isolation, networking, storage)
Hands-on experience with Xen, KVM / Harvester, or equivalenthypervisor technologies
Understanding of Kubernetes and container concepts (clusters, workloads, lifecycle)
Ability to design hybrid VM/container architectures
Robust understanding of networking principles (VLANs,segmentation, multiple interfaces, latency considerations)
Awareness of security and isolation mechanisms in virtualizedplatforms, including secure boot concepts
Ability to work in multi-hypervisor environments and understandnested virtualization concepts
Experience with automation, deployment, or platform tooling(CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, orchestration concepts)
