About the Role

As a Cosmetic Formulation Chemist, you will lead the development and improvement of skincare and haircare formulations. You'll work closely with the founder, manufacturers and suppliers to create products that are effective, reliable and commercially scalable.

Key Responsibilities

Product Development

- Develop innovative skincare and haircare formulations from concept to commercialization.
- Formulate products such as face washes, serums, moisturizers, sunscreens, shampoos, conditioners, hair oils and masks.
- Improve existing formulations based on customer feedback and market trends.
- Research new ingredients, active compounds and formulation technologies.
- Optimize formulations for stability, texture, fragrance, performance and cost.

Research & Innovation

- Stay updated with global cosmetic trends, ingredient innovations and consumer preferences.
- Research competitor products and recommend improvements.
- Suggest new product concepts aligned with the Rephase brand vision.
- Evaluate ingredient compatibility and product efficacy.

Testing & Quality

- Conduct stability, compatibility and performance testing.
- Maintain formulation documentation and batch records.
- Ensure consistency during pilot and commercial production.
- Support troubleshooting during manufacturing.

Regulatory & Compliance

- Ensure formulations comply with Indian cosmetic regulations and applicable international standards.
- Prepare technical documentation and ingredient declarations.
- Coordinate with third-party laboratories for testing when required.
- Review labels, claims and product specifications for compliance.

Collaboration

- Work with manufacturers to scale formulations.




- Coordinate with packaging suppliers for compatibility testing.
- Support the marketing team with product claims and ingredient education.
- Train internal teams on product features and formulation benefits.

We're Looking For Someone Who

- Has 1-3 years of experience in cosmetic formulation.
- Holds a degree in Cosmetic Science, Chemistry, or related field.
- Has hands-on experience developing skincare and/or haircare products.
- Understands emulsions, surfactants, preservatives, polymers and cosmetic active ingredients.
- Is familiar with formulation stability testing and quality standards.
- Has experience working with third-party manufacturers.
- Is detail-oriented, innovative and passionate about creating great products.
- Enjoys working in a fast-paced startup workplace and taking ownership.

Experience with natural, herbal or science-backed cosmetic formulations will be an added advantage.
