Role Overview

This role delivers L2 operational support for PostgreSQL across enterprise and cloud environments. You will handle production incidents, monitor and maintain replication, validate backups and restores, execute or support patches, and perform routine health checks. The position emphasizes strong troubleshooting using logs, WAL insights, vacuum/analyze, and performance diagnostics while maintaining ticket hygiene and clear communication in a 24x7, SLA-driven setup. You will execute migration and deployment checklists, assist with post-deployment verification, and document risks and SOP updates. Non-SOP or architecture-level changes are escalated to Engineering/L3 per scope boundaries.

Required Qualifications

- 46 years hands-on PostgreSQL administration/support (production)
- Strong backup, restore, and PITR experience; backup validation
- Replication setup/monitoring and HA operations experience
- Ability to read and interpret PostgreSQL logs; understanding of WAL
- Experience with vacuum/analyze, autovacuum tuning, and performance diagnostics
- Production support (L2), incident/alert handling, and escalation practices




- Experience supporting migrations/deployments and post-deployment verification
- Willingness to work 24x7 shifts with strong SLA/ticket discipline
- Good-to-have: Exposure to Azure Database for PostgreSQL or GCP PostgreSQL
- Good-to-have: Shell or Python scripting for automation
- Positive-to-have: Monitoring tools and ITSM/ticketing (e.g., Jira, ServiceNow)
- Good-to-have: Compliance/audit support and reporting

Responsibilities

- Own and resolve PostgreSQL L2 tickets; triage alerts and join incident bridges
- Perform operational tasks: backup validation, replication monitoring, patch support, and user/access administration
- Support migration/deployment checklists, assist execution steps, and perform post-deployment verification
- Conduct operational health checks and performance diagnostics (logs, WAL, vacuum/analyze)
- Update SOPs/KEDB, provide inputs for service reports, and drive continuous improvement
- Document risks, maintain shift handovers, and mentor junior DB engineers
- Adhere to scope boundaries by escalating non-SOP engineering or architecture changes to L3/Engineering
