Job Summary
The Purchase Engineer is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing engineering materials, equipment, and services required for production. The role ensures timely procurement of quality materials at competitive prices while maintaining strong vendor relationships and complying with company policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, evaluate, and develop new suppliers.
- Obtain quotations, compare prices, and prepare comparative statements.
- Negotiate prices, payment terms, and delivery schedules with suppliers.
- Prepare and issue Purchase Orders (POs).
- Follow up with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials.
- Coordinate with production, stores, maintenance, and quality departments to understand material requirements.
- Ensure purchased materials meet technical specifications and quality standards.
- Monitor inventory levels and avoid stock shortages or excess inventory.
- Resolve issues related to delayed deliveries, quality, or quantity discrepancies.
- Maintain procurement records, vendor databases, and purchase documentation.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction and process improvements.
- Ensure compliance with company procurement policies and applicable regulations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline.
Experience
- 4- 6 years of experience in engineering procurement or industrial purchasing.
Required Skills
- Robust negotiation and vendor management skills.
- Knowledge of engineering materials, components, and industrial equipment.
- Understanding of procurement processes and supply chain management.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Good analytical and cost evaluation skills.
- Proficiency in SAP systems and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Good planning and organizational abilities.
