Job Summary
The OT Scrub Nurse will assist surgeons during operative procedures by preparing the OT, maintaining sterile technique, and ensuring all instruments and supplies are ready and accounted for throughout the surgery.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare the operation theatre, ensuring all instruments, equipment, and supplies are sterile and ready before surgery
Scrub in and assist the surgical team by passing instruments, sutures, and materials during procedures
Maintain strict aseptic technique throughout surgical procedures to prevent infection
Count and verify surgical instruments, needles, and sponges before, during, and after procedures
Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and surgical team during operations
Assist with positioning, draping, and prepping patients for surgery
Ensure proper handling,
sterilization, and storage of surgical instruments post-procedure
Maintain accurate documentation of surgical procedures, instrument counts, and OT records
Coordinate with anesthesia and OT support staff for smooth patient flow
Adhere to infection control protocols and OT safety standards
Assist in restocking OT supplies and reporting equipment malfunctions
Respond to emergency and on-call surgical requirements as needed
Requirements
Minimum 2 years of experience as an OT Scrub Nurse or in Operation Theatre nursing
GNM/B.Sc Nursing with valid Nursing Council registration
Certification/training in OT techniques and aseptic protocols preferred
Sound knowledge of surgical instruments, procedures, and sterilization techniques
Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a quick-paced OT workplace
Strong attention to detail and coordination skills
Willingness to work in shifts, including nights, weekends, and emergency calls
