Key Responsibilities
Job Responsibilities :Role Summary
The Commvault L2 Backup Administrator is responsible for managing, supporting, and optimizing enterprise backup and recovery operations using Commvault technologies. This role provides Level 2 support, handles incidents and service requests escalated from L1 teams, performs troubleshooting, ensures backup compliance, and supports restore operations to meet business SLA and RPO/RTO objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Backup Operations & Support
• Administer and support Commvault Complete Backup & Recovery environments
• Monitor backup jobs, schedules, alerts, and storage policies
• Investigate and resolve backup and restore failures.
• Perform data restores (files, folders, databases, VMs) as per SLA
• Ensure daily health checks and proactive monitoring of backup infrastructure
Incident & Problem Management
• Handle L2-level incidents, service requests, and changes
• Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and permanent fixes for recurring issues
• Coordinate with L3 teams, vendors, and application owners when required




• Participate in incident bridges during major outages
Commvault Administration
• Configure and manage:
o Clients, subclients, schedules
o Storage policies, retention rules
o Media agents and disk libraries
• Manage backup of:
o Windows & Linux servers
o Virtual environments (VMware / Hyper-V)
o Databases (SQL Server, Oracle – basic level)
o NAS and file servers (if applicable)
Change, Maintenance & Optimization
• Implement backup-related changes with proper approvals
• Perform backup optimization, cleanup, and reporting
• Support Commvault upgrades, patching, and maintenance tasks
• Ensure compliance with organizational backup policies and standards
Documentation & Reporting
• Maintain SOPs, KB articles, and recovery procedures
• Prepare backup status, SLA, and capacity reports
• Maintain audit and compliance documentation for backups
Skill Requirements
Skill Requirement :Required Skills & Qualifications
Technical Skills
• Hands-on experience with Commvault (v10 / v11)
• Solid knowledge of:
o Backup and recovery concepts
o Incremental, full, synthetic full backups
o Retention and deduplication
• Virtualization:
o VMware vSphere backups (mandatory)
• Storage understanding:
o Disk, NAS, SAN (conceptual knowledge)
ITSM & Tools
• Experience with ITIL-based environments
• Familiarity with ticketing tools (ServiceNow, Remedy, etc.)
• Ability to work in 24x7 shifts and on-call rotations (if required)
