Job Title: Hospital Financial Counselor

Job Summary

We are seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented Hospital Financial Counselor to assist patients in understanding the financial aspects of their healthcare. The Financial Counselor will educate patients about insurance coverage, estimated costs, payment options, financial assistance programs, and available resources while ensuring compliance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

- Meet with patients to explain insurance benefits, out-of-pocket costs, and payment responsibilities.
- Verify insurance eligibility and benefits prior to services.
- Provide cost estimates for scheduled procedures and treatments.
- Assist patients with financial assistance, charity care, Medicaid, and other assistance program applications.
- Establish payment plans in accordance with hospital policies.
- Coordinate with registration, billing, case management, and clinical departments to resolve financial issues.
- Maintain accurate documentation of patient financial counseling activities.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, hospital policies, and applicable healthcare regulations.
- Follow up on pending applications and required documentation.




- Deliver excellent customer service while maintaining patient confidentiality.

Qualifications

- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in patient financial services, medical billing, insurance verification, or healthcare revenue cycle.
- Knowledge of commercial insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, and financial assistance programs.
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR) and hospital billing systems preferred.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and customer service skills.
