Role & responsibilities
Data sourcing and source network
- Map, evaluate, and own data sources : price reporting agencies, trade portals, association bulletins, customs data feeds, WhatsApp market networks, supplier circulars
- Build and maintain a live source network of traders, CHAs, freight forwarders, and SMEs who give you ground-truth price checks
- Define which price matters for each commodity
- Own source reliability scoring
Data validation and quality
- Catch stale data, denomination errors, grade mismatches, and source conflicts before they reach users
- Define and maintain data quality rules that the engineering team implements in the pipeline
- Flag anomalies, when a price moves more than expected, and understand why before it goes live
- Work with SMEs and anchor customers to validate market data against what theyre seeing on the ground
Import parity modelling
- Build and maintain the import parity model
- Track and update duty structures, port charge schedules, and freight rate movements as they change
- Maintain origin-level models
Pipeline collaboration
- Work directly with the engineering team to define what data to ingest, what format it should arrive in, and how to handle source conflicts programmatically
- Be the domain expert in the room when engineering is building scrapers, API integrations, and validation logic
Intelligence output
- Weekly pricing intelligence report , structured market summary across key commodities with price movements, import parity, and signals
- Daily price cards for the platform, current price, change, source confidence, import vs domestic comparison
- Ad hoc market briefs for anchor customers when significant price events occur
Preferred candidate profile
- Experience in commodity price reporting, procurement intelligence, or chemical market analytics. Working experience with price reporting organisation like ICIS, Platts, Chemorbis, PolymerUpdate is an added point
- Working knowledge of import parity mechanics
- Experience with ICEGATE, DGFT trade statistics, or port-level import data
- Familiarity with Indian chemical import ecosystem Experience reconciling conflicting price data from multiple sources
- Comfort working directly with engineers to define data schemas, validation logic, and pipeline specifications
- Robust Excel or Google Sheets skills: build models
