About the Role

We are looking for a highly experienced Senior PostgreSQL DBA with robust expertise in managing large-scale production database environments independenty. The ideal candidate should possess deep hands-on knowledge of PostgreSQL and Linux systems, along with strong troubleshooting, performance tuning, and high availability experience.The role also requires collaboration with application, infrastructure, DevOps, and cloud teams while mentoring junior DBAs and contributing to database automation and operational excellence initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

- Install, configure, administer, and maintain PostgreSQL databases on Linux/Unix platforms.
- Manage and support large-scale production PostgreSQL environments with high availability requirements.
- Perform advanced database monitoring, query optimization, and performance tuning.
- Design and optimize complex SQL queries, functions, procedures, schemas, and views.
- Implement and manage backup, restore, disaster recovery, and data retention strategies.
- Manage database security, user access, roles, and privileges.
- Perform PostgreSQL patching, upgrades, migrations, and capacity planning activities.
- Troubleshoot critical production issues and lead incident resolution efforts.
- Collaborate with application, infrastructure, cloud, and DevOps teams for deployment and operational support.
- Mentor junior DBAs,



conduct technical reviews, and provide technical leadership.
- Define and contribute to DBA standards, automation initiatives, documentation, and best practices.
- Participate in shift-based support and ensure SLA adherence.
- Support and contribute to building/enhancing the organizations DBA capability and practice.

Required Skills & Qualifications

- 10+ years of hands-on experience as a PostgreSQL DBA.
- Strong expertise in PostgreSQL architecture, SQL, and database internals.
- Core end to end Postgres
- Excellent hands-on experience with Linux/Unix administration.
- Strong understanding of:
- Indexing strategies
- Query execution plans
- Vacuum / Autovacuum tuning
- Replication (Streaming & Logical)
- High Availability and Failover concepts

- Proven experience managing production database environments.
- Independent shell scripting for Automation without enterprise tools.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Scripting and automation using Shell or Python.
- Experience handling performance bottlenecks and critical database incidents.
- Ability to lead technical discussions and mentor junior team members.

Good to Have Skills

- Exposure to cloud platforms such as:
- Amazon Web Services (AWS)
- Microsoft Azure
- Google Cloud

- Experience with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
- Knowledge of monitoring tools such as:

- Prometheus
- Grafana

- Experience with containerization technologies:

- Docker
- Kubernetes

- Experience with database migration tools.
