Role & responsibilities
- Install, assemble, fabricate, and repair industrial piping systems as per engineering drawings and specifications.
- Read and interpret P&ID; (Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams), isometric drawings, GA drawings, and blueprints.
- Measure, cut, thread, bend, align, and fit pipes using appropriate tools and equipment.
- Install carbon steel, stainless steel, GI, MS, PVC, CPVC, HDPE, and other industrial piping systems.
- Carry out pipe routing, alignment, leveling, and support installation.
- Install valves, flanges, pumps, strainers, expansion joints, fittings, and other piping accessories.
- Perform hydrostatic, pneumatic, and pressure testing of piping systems.
- Inspect piping systems for leaks, defects, corrosion, and damage.
- Carry out preventive, breakdown, and corrective maintenance of pipelines and utility systems.
- Coordinate with welders, fabricators, maintenance engineers, and project teams for smooth execution of work.
- Ensure proper pipe supports, hangers, clamps, and brackets are installed as per standards.
- Replace damaged pipes, valves, fittings, and related components whenever required.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and material consumption.
- Ensure proper identification and marking of pipelines.
- Follow welding and fabrication procedures during pipe assembly.
- Perform alignment of pumps and connected piping to prevent vibration and leakage.
- Ensure all piping work complies with project specifications, quality standards, and safety regulations.
- Use measuring instruments and hand tools efficiently.
- Maintain housekeeping and cleanliness at the worksite.
- Participate in shutdown maintenance, plant installation, and commissioning activities.
- Report equipment defects and safety hazards immediately to the supervisor.
- Follow Permit to Work (PTW),
Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and other plant safety procedures.
- Use appropriate PPE and comply with all company safety guidelines.
- Support emergency maintenance activities whenever required.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor or Plant Manager.
Preferred candidate profile
- ITI (Fitter), ITI (Pipe Fitter), Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent technical qualification.
- Minimum 28 years of experience as a Pipe Fitter in manufacturing plants, industrial projects, EPC companies, refineries, chemical plants, pharmaceuticals, oil & gas, power plants, or heavy engineering industries.
- Hands-on experience in industrial piping installation and maintenance.
- Good knowledge of piping materials, valves, fittings, flanges, and pipe support systems.
- Ability to read and interpret P&ID;, isometric, and engineering drawings.
- Experience in hydro testing, pneumatic testing, and leak testing.
- Knowledge of industrial safety standards and safe work practices.
- Familiarity with welding coordination and fabrication activities.
- Basic knowledge of pumps, compressors, boilers, chillers, cooling towers, and utility piping systems.
- Skilled in using pipe threading, cutting, grinding, drilling, and measuring tools.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a maintenance team.
- Solid troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and coordination abilities.
- Physically fit and capable of handling industrial maintenance work.
- Willingness to work in rotational shifts and during plant shutdowns if required.
- Candidates with experience in manufacturing, chemical, pharmaceutical, engineering, infrastructure, oil & gas, or industrial utility plants will be preferred.
- Knowledge of 5S, TPM, and preventive maintenance practices will be an added advantage.
