About the role:
In this Corporate Counsel role, you will serve as a trusted advisor to Human Resources and business leadership, delivering practical, business-oriented employment law counsel and advice across India and supporting broader Asia Pacific initiatives.
You will manage a broad range of labor and employment matters in India and Asia Pacific to protect the enterprises rights. As part of a global legal team with over 200 attorneys and paraprofessionals, your focus will be on employment law advice and counseling and related litigation support including day-to-day counseling, policy development, dispute management and compliance, with collaboration alongside Human Resources, business leaders and the Ethics Office on internal investigations as needed.
About the team:
You will be a member of the FIS India Legal Compliance Corporate Affairs team (LCCA), working closely with the Global Employment Law Team and Ethics Office. Candidates must be team-oriented, collaborative and committed to FIS Core Values of Win as One Team, Lead with Integrity and Be the Change.
What you will be doing:
- Provides in-house legal counsel on labor and employment matters related to employees in India and Asia Pacific countries on a need basis, including employee relations concerns, compensation and benefits, leave, wrongful dismissal, redundancy, settlement agreements, and employment agreements.
- Manages employment disputes, pre-litigation claims, employment litigation, arbitration,
and mediations.
- Works with external counsel as needed on complex legal issues related to labor and employment law matters and civil proceedings in India and Asia Pacific countries.
- Ensures business and employment practices, policies, and standards comply with applicable labor and employment laws and regulations and provide practical advice to HR and business leaders on these issues.
- Proactively monitors and advises management on developments and changes in labor and employment laws and regulations in India that affect the business. Identifies legal risks and opportunities within the labor and employment area within India and engages with the correct stakeholders to implement the compliance tool from an employment legal perspective.
- Works closely with HR and FIS on internal investigations and help develop and enhance employment law compliance processes, policies, and guidelines, including overseeing responses to regulatory inquiries and participating in complex legal projects.
- Assists when needed on sensitive and complex matters such as sexual harassment and retaliation claims; workforce strategy and execution of reductions in force; and advising on employment aspects of acquisitions and divestments..
- Drafts, reviews, and negotiates various employment-related agreements and related legal documents and is able to internalize positions with different stakeholders.
- Develops and improves employment law compliance processes, policies and guidelines to minimize legal exposure.
- Oversees responses to inquiries from regulatory authorities.
- Participates in both routine and complex legal projects relating to employment law matters.

What you will need:
- Strong skills and knowledge of Indian labor and employment law with specific reference to the recent labour codes; experience handling employment and Ethics workplace investigations involving issues including sexual harassment, retaliation, whistleblower concerns, fraud, bribery, and corruption; experience counseling on labor and employment issues in Asia Pacific countries is strongly preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of post-qualification experience practicing law with a law firm or in-house India legal department; in-house labour and employment laws experience within India is strongly preferred.
- A law degree from an approved Indian law school.
- Demonstration of excellent oral and written communication skills and are comfortable presenting to audiences at the executive, management, and individual-contributor levels.
- Adept at legal research, problem solving, and time management, and you can work autonomously to handle the general requirements of the role.
- Available to travel as needed.
