Database Developer (MySQL & SQL Server)

About the Role

We are looking for a skilled Database Developer with strong hands-on experience in MySQL and SQL Server to design, develop, and optimize the data layer for our products and applications.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with product owners, business analysts, and application development teams to transform business requirements into scalable database designs, efficient SQL solutions, and high-performance database objects. Your work will focus on developing new features, enhancing existing applications, optimizing database performance, and solving complex business challenges through effective database design and SQL programming.

This is a product-focused database development role, not a database administration (DBA) position. The role does not involve server administration, backup/recovery, infrastructure management, or database operations.

Key Responsibilities

Database Design & Development

- Design normalized, scalable, and well-indexed database schemas that support application features.
- Create and maintain tables, keys, constraints, relationships, and other database objects.
- Develop, maintain, and optimize stored procedures, functions, views, and triggers.
- Analyze and optimize existing SQL queries, stored procedures, and indexing strategies to improve application performance.
- Implement efficient set-based SQL solutions while minimizing cursor- or row-based processing wherever possible.

Feature Development & Requirement Analysis

- Work closely with Product Owners and Business Analysts to convert business requirements into efficient database designs.
- Design database solutions for business workflows such as fixed income trading, reference data,



and counterparty management.
- Prototype, validate, and implement schema changes using version-controlled, idempotent migration scripts.
- Modify database structures to support new product features while ensuring stability through thorough testing.

Quality, Testing & Performance

- Optimize queries and indexing strategies to improve application performance.
- Develop data validation and quality checks, including information_schema-based audits and row-count reconciliation.
- Troubleshoot database-related issues and resolve performance bottlenecks.
- Participate in database code reviews and contribute to coding standards and database design best practices.

Research & Modern Development Practices

- Stay updated with new capabilities in MySQL and SQL Server, including features such as JSON support, partitioning, and advanced query functionality.
- Utilize AI-assisted development tools such as ChatGPT, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar technologies to improve productivity while validating code quality, accuracy, and performance.
- Maintain database code, migration scripts, and change history using Git version control.

Documentation & Collaboration

- Prepare and maintain technical documentation for database designs, development standards, and implementation processes.




- Gather user requirements and identify opportunities for new database-backed application features.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams throughout the software development lifecycle.

Requirements

Experience

- 2+ years of hands-on experience developing database solutions using both MySQL and SQL Server.
- Strong expertise in writing and optimizing stored procedures, functions, triggers, and complex SQL queries in both platforms.
- Experience designing database schemas for product or application development, rather than only maintaining existing databases.
- Experience with cloud database platforms such as AWS Aurora MySQL or Azure SQL is an added advantage.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to understand business requirements and translate them into effective database solutions.
- Comfortable collaborating directly with product and application development teams.
- Curiosity to learn emerging technologies and adopt AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity.
