The Stores Manager will be responsible for managing all aspects of inventory and warehouse operations, including receipt, storage, issue, traceability, stock control, ERP transactions, and coordination with procurement, production, quality, and dispatch teams. The role is critical in ensuring uninterrupted production through effective inventory planning while maintaining high levels of inventory accuracy and discipline.
Key Responsibilities
1. Inventory Management
- Manage receipt, storage, preservation, and issue of all raw materials, bought-out items, consumables, WIP, and finished goods.
- Ensure uninterrupted availability of materials for production.
- Maintain optimum inventory levels while minimizing excess stock and working capital.
- Monitor slow-moving, non-moving, surplus, and obsolete inventory and recommend corrective actions.
2. Material Receipt & Inspection Coordination
- Verify incoming materials against purchase orders, delivery challans, and material test certificates.
- Coordinate with the Quality department for incoming material inspections.
- Ensure proper identification, tagging, and traceability of all materials.
- Report shortages, damages, or discrepancies immediately.
3. Material Issue & Production Support
- Issue materials against approved Material Requisitions (MRNs) and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Ensure timely availability of materials to fabrication, machining, assembly, painting, and testing departments.
- Monitor material consumption and control wastage.
- Coordinate urgent material requirements with the procurement team.
4. ERP & Documentation
- Maintain accurate inventory records in the ERP system.
- Record all Goods Receipt Notes (GRNs), stock transfers, material issues, returns, and stock adjustments.
- Maintain complete documentation for inward and outward material movements.
- Generate inventory reports and MIS for management.
5. Warehouse Operations
- Organize stores for efficient storage and retrieval of materials.
- Maintain separate storage areas for:
- Plates
- Pipes
- Flanges
- Fittings
- Fasteners
- Gaskets
- Welding consumables
- Instrumentation
- Electrical items
- Bought-out components
- Finished goods
- Ensure proper preservation of stainless steel, duplex, alloy materials, and critical components.
6. Material Traceability
- Maintain complete traceability of pressure vessel materials throughout storage and manufacturing.
- Ensure segregation of materials by heat number, grade, project, and customer requirements.
- Maintain material traceability records in accordance with ASME, PED, and customer specifications.
- Support Quality in preparation of Manufacturing Record Books (MRBs) and documentation.
7. Stock Verification & Audit
- Conduct monthly and annual physical stock verification.
- Investigate inventory discrepancies and implement corrective actions.
- Coordinate internal and external inventory audits.
- Maintain high inventory accuracy at all times.
8. Team Management
- Supervise stores personnel and material handlers.
- Allocate daily work and monitor productivity.
- Train the team on inventory management, ERP usage, safety, and material handling.
- Promote discipline, accountability, and continuous improvement.
9. Safety & Housekeeping
- Ensure safe storage and handling of all materials.
- Implement 5S practices throughout the stores.
- Maintain proper stacking, labeling, and storage practices.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and fire protection requirements.
10. Cross-Functional Coordination
Work closely with:
- Procurement
- Production
- Design & Engineering
- Quality Assurance
- Dispatch
- Finance
to ensure seamless material flow and timely project execution.
11. Multi-Location Stores Management
- Oversee inventory and stores operations across multiple manufacturing facilities.
- Standardize stores procedures, documentation, labeling, and inventory management practices across all locations.
- Monitor inventory levels at each location and facilitate stock transfers to optimize inventory utilization and support production requirements.
- Ensure accurate inventory visibility and reconciliation across all locations through the ERP system.
- Conduct periodic audits and physical stock verification at each facility to maintain inventory accuracy and compliance.
- Develop inventory stocking norms and reorder levels for each location based on production requirements.
- Lead and mentor stores personnel across all locations, ensuring consistent implementation of company policies and best practices.
- Coordinate with production, procurement, logistics, and dispatch teams to ensure efficient movement of materials between locations.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or a related discipline.
Experience
- 515 years of experience in stores and inventory management in an engineering or manufacturing environment.
- Experience in pressure vessel, fabrication, process equipment, or heavy engineering industries is highly preferred.

Strong understanding of:
- Engineering raw materials (plates, pipes, flanges, fittings, fasteners, structural steel)

Working Hours
- Six-day work week (Monday to Saturday)
- 9:30 AM to 6:30 PM
- This is a full-time, office and factory-based role requiring close coordination with the manufacturing facility and regular presence on the shop floor.
