Position Overview
The Senior Expert Watch Case Maker is a master-level craftsperson responsible for the end-to-end fabrication, finishing, and precision assembly of high-grade watch cases. This role demands exceptional technical mastery across multi-material case construction, micron-level tolerances, and advanced sealing systems to ensure both aesthetic excellence and functional integrity.
The incumbent will serve as a subject-matter expert in watch case assembly, contributing to process optimization, quality assurance, and continuous improvement within a high-precision manufacturing environment.
Core Responsibilities
A. Watch Case Manufacturing & Fabrication
- Execute the complete manufacturing cycle of watch cases, including blank preparation, machining, and structural refinement.
- Operate and program high-precision CNC machinery (3-, 4-, and 5-axis) for case middle, bezel, and case back production.
- Work with a broad spectrum of materials, including but not limited to 316L/904L stainless steel, grade 5 titanium, precious metals (gold, platinum), and high-tech ceramics.
- Apply advanced finishing techniques such as satin brushing, mirror polishing, bead blasting, and micro-texturing in accordance with design specifications.
B. Expert Watch Case Assembly
- Perform precision assembly of multi-component watch cases, including:
- Case middle integration
- Bezel fitting (press-fit, screw-down, or rotational mechanisms)
- Crystal installation (sapphire/mineral, gasket-sealed or adhesive-mounted)
- Case back sealing (snap-on, screw-down, exhibition types)
- Crown and stem tube installation
- Pusher systems (chronograph or complication-specific mechanisms)
- Gasket selection, lubrication, and placement
- Ensure exact alignment, torque application, and tolerance compliance during assembly.
- Execute sealing operations to meet specified water-resistance ratings (e.g., 3 ATM to 30 ATM+),
including vacuum and pressure resistance preparation.
C. Tolerancing, Fit & Functional Integrity
- Maintain dimensional tolerances within micron-level accuracy using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, comparators, optical measurement systems).
- Ensure proper interfacing between case components and movement housing.
- Validate mechanical integrity of threaded, press-fit, and gasket-sealed interfaces.
D. Quality Assurance & Testing
- Conduct in-process and final inspections to verify aesthetic and functional standards.
- Perform water resistance testing (dry and wet methods), including vacuum, pressure, and condensation tests.
- Identify, diagnose, and rectify defects related to machining, finishing, or assembly.
- Document inspection results and ensure traceability in accordance with quality management systems.
E. Technical Interpretation & Process Optimization
- Interpret complex technical drawings, CAD models, and GD&T; (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) specifications.
- Collaborate with product development and engineering teams to enhance case design for manufacturability and assembly efficiency.
- Recommend improvements in tooling, materials, and assembly techniques to elevate product quality and reduce production variability.
F. Equipment & Workshop Management
- Maintain and calibrate precision tools, fixtures, and assembly equipment.
- Ensure adherence to cleanroom or controlled-environment protocols where applicable.
- Uphold stringent safety, quality,
and organizational standards within the workshop.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 7-10 years of specialized experience in high-precision watch case manufacturing and assembly.
- Demonstrated expertise in assembling complex, multi-component watch cases with high water-resistance requirements.
- Advanced proficiency in CNC machining, finishing processes, and micro-mechanical assembly.
- Strong knowledge of material science as it relates to horological applications.
- Proven ability to work within extremely tight tolerances and quality benchmarks.
- Exceptional manual dexterity, visual acuity, and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Formal certification or diploma in horology, micro-mechanical engineering, or precision manufacturing.
- Experience within luxury or haute horlogerie environments.
- Familiarity with CAD/CAM systems and modern digital manufacturing workflows.
- Knowledge of international quality standards relevant to watchmaking.
Core Competencies
- Mastery in precision craftsmanship
- Advanced technical and mechanical aptitude
- Meticulous attention to microscopic detail
- Problem-solving and diagnostic capability
- Process discipline and quality orientation
- Collaborative engagement with cross-functional teams
Working Workplace
- Controlled manufacturing or atelier setting requiring sustained concentration and fine motor precision.
- Regular use of magnification tools (loupe/microscope) and micro-assembly instruments.
- Compliance with strict environmental, safety, and cleanliness standards.
Position Note:
This role is suited for individuals operating at the highest level of craftsmanship in watch case making, with a deep commitment to precision engineering, aesthetic perfection, and the enduring standards of fine watchmaking.
