- Develops and maintains standards of Nursing systems & policies and patient care in the Department.
- Maintain secure & infection free environment in the Department.
- Provide inputs for preparation and monitoring of annual operational budget & recommend annual capital equipment for the Department.
- Ensures optimum utilization of resources and quality assurance in service delivery.
- Evaluate Department performance and contribute to its upgradation/ improvement.
- Ensures that all staff knows and understand and follow department policies and procedures concerning CPR, fire, disaster, safety, etc., and are familiar with the use and functions of all the department equipment
- Ensuring that the highest standard of clinical care is maintained by the introduction and implementation of a systematic approach to planning and delivery of nursing care, allocating available resources and the nursing staff responsibilities appropriately, providing adequate supervision and guidance where necessary.
- Ensures and fosters a good relation between all health care professionals.
- Ensures that continuity of care is maintained by the take-over and hand-over reports, with clear communication at all times.
- Ensures ongoing review and revision of nursing policies and procedures
- Ensures all equipment are in working condition
- Ensures calibration and maintenance of all equipments in the department collaborating with biomedical and maintenance department
- Provides care management and care coordination for adult and/or pediatric patients receiving cancer treatment and follow up as needed until deemed clinically stable by the oncologist
- Evaluates and organizes patients care & ensures continuity of care based on patients’ needs.
- Conducts daily Department rounds and addresses any issues related to nursing care and taking corrective/preventive action where necessary.
- Ensures nurse-patient communication/patient education is clear and effective.




- Coordinates patient care through ongoing collaboration with medical oncologist,
- Implements systems of care that facilitates close monitoring of high-risk patients to prevent and/or intervene early during acute responses to treatment or exacerbations.
- Works closely with cancer patients and their families, helping them to cope, teaching them about the disease and explaining treatment options
- Ensure that cancer services for patients receiving surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy - are co-ordinated in liaison with the multidisciplinary team in order to facilitate the seamless provision of cancer care
- Educating cancer patients about treatment options, procedures and particularities of the disease,
- Manage leave/attendance/duty roster for Nurses.
- Competency assessment and orientation of new joinees.
- Training & developing, coaching & mentoring of subordinates.
- Performance Management of Department staff.
- Review current SOPs of Department and lead on formulation of new ones.
- Inventory management Department supplies for cost effectiveness.
- Effective maintenance/management of facilities and equipment, and monitors utilization of the same.
- Tracking of clinical quality indicators/outcome measures like return to ICU, planned step-downs, ICU dashboard etc.
- Reporting of incidents and taking corrective action where necessary escalate if required.
- Allocate duties to the staff as per patients’ need for continuity of care.
- Supervise completion of documentation.
- Approval for staff on leave without pay.
- Escalates in case of major variance in clinical services.
- Ensures effective coordination and use of all resources in line with approved budgets and meets reporting requirements •
- Retains staff appropriately to area, maintaining an appropriate roster and skill mix to enable the delivery of safe care •
- Manages staff sick leave in conjunction with the senior nursing staff •
- Manages staff performance in conjunction with the Nurse Educators
