Job Description
Business Manager
Location: Mumbai, India
Reports To: CEO / Managing Director
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and results-oriented Business Manager laboratory equipment, analytical, Chromatography instrumentation, or related life sciences to manage and grow the business across pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and other life sciences organizations.
The individual will be responsible for developing business opportunities, managing customer relationships, coordinating instrument services, and ensuring effective lifecycle management of chromatography/analytical systems. This role requires a strong understanding of laboratory operations and instrumentation, combined with excellent business development and customer management skills.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Growth
- Develop and execute business strategies for instruments and related laboratory solutions.
- Identify current business opportunities with pharmaceutical, biotechnology, chemical, CRO, and research organizations.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key customers, laboratory managers, scientists, procurement teams, and senior management.
- Prepare and negotiate commercial proposals, quotations, and business agreements.
- Coordinate with technical/service teams to ensure timely installation, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, qualification, and repair activities
Customer & Account Management
- Serve as the primary business contact for assigned strategic laboratory and pharmaceutical accounts.
- Conduct regular customer visits and business reviews to understand operational requirements.
- Resolve customer concerns and coordinate with internal technical, quality, and commercial teams to ensure timely resolution.
- Develop long-term customer relationships and identify opportunities for cross-selling and up-selling.
- work closely with Sales, Technical, Quality, Engineering, Finance, HR and external instrument manufacturers/distributors
Project & Proposal Management
- Preparing technical/commercial proposals.
- Coordinate with manufacturers, distributors, engineers, and internal teams for instrument implementation projects.
- Manage projects from initial inquiry through quotation, purchase order, delivery, installation, IQ/OQ/PQ, and final acceptance.
Financial & Operational Responsibilities
- Prepare annual business plans, sales forecasts, budgets, and revenue projections.
- Monitor sales performance, profitability, receivables, and customer payment status.
- Work closely with finance and operations teams to ensure timely invoicing and collection.
- Maintain an effective sales pipeline and provide periodic management reports on business performance.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Pharmacy, Biotechnology, or a related field.
- An MBA or equivalent qualification in Sales/Marketing/Business Management will be an advantage.
- 5–10 years of experience in laboratory equipment, analytical instrumentation, field engineering or related life sciences businesses.
- Strong knowledge of HPLC/UHPLC, GC, analytical instrument technologies.
- Experience working with pharmaceutical, biotechnology, chemical, CRO, OEMs or research laboratories is preferred.

- Ability to understand customer technical requirements and translate them into appropriate solutions.
- Strong commercial and financial understanding.
- Ability to manage multiple customer accounts and projects simultaneously.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, CRM systems, and business reporting tools.
