JOB PURPOSE

The Senior SAN Storage Engineer provides technical skills that cover a broad range of disciplines and/or a particular technical discipline that is of significance to HCA. Perform any technical project assigned with minimal supervision. Identify, investigate, evaluate, and become proficient in recent technologies and technical disciplines that are of significance to HCA Healthcare.

The Senior PowerScale Storage Engineer serves as a technical subject matter expert (SME) responsible for the enterprise-wide architecture support, engineering, performance optimization, and operational stability of Dell PowerScale (Isilon) scale-out NAS environments. Operating with minimal supervision, this role leads complex storage initiatives, executes non-disruptive cluster expansions, drives storage remediation, and develops automation to streamline unstructured data management across multi-site environments.

Primary duties include serving as the highest technical escalation point for critical incidents, designing disaster recovery strategies (SyncIQ), managing multi-protocol file access (SMB, NFS, S3), and conducting deep-dive capacity trending and array analytics. The Senior Engineer collaborates closely with enterprise architects, security teams, and cross-platform leads (VMware, Linux, Windows, Cloud) to align storage capabilities with business needs, enforce data governance (SmartLock, SmartQuotas), and mentor junior administration staff.

The position will also work closely with our remediation team to deploy and operate remediation and mitigation implementation technologies and automation of IT operations.

While this position will require cross-platform knowledge, the candidate should expect a preliminary focus in Windows/VMWare/HyperV with Linux/Unix being a plus.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Core Responsibilities

- Architecture & Scaling: Design multi-petabyte clusters; lead non-disruptive expansions and hardware refreshes.




- Complex Data Migrations: Strategy, planning, and execution of large-scale file migrations from legacy or competing NAS platforms (e.g., NetApp, legacy VNX) to PowerScale using enterprise tools like Datadobi (DobiMiner), rsync, or EMCOPY with minimal business disruption.
- Cloud & Hybrid Integration: Architect and execute cloud data strategies, including migrating file workloads to native cloud environments (PowerScale for Google Cloud, AWS, or Azure) and managing hybrid storage workflows.
- Multi-Protocol Mastery: Architect unified SMB and NFS access over the same data without breaking identity mapping or ACLs.
- Performance Tuning: Troubleshoot deep bottlenecks using isi statistics, InsightIQ, and job engine optimization.
- Disaster Recovery: Design complex DR topologies using SyncIQ, SnapshotIQ, and Superna Eyeglass.
- Governance & Mentorship: Own the creation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and act as the ultimate escalation tier.

We are looking for a Senior NAS Expert and PowerScale/Isilon Subject Matter Expert (SME) to lead the architecture, engineering, strategy, and highest-tier escalation support for our global file storage infrastructure. This individual must possess deep, internal code-level understanding (80%+ core technical mastery) of the OneFS operating system, distributed file systems, and enterprise-scale NAS architecture. You will be responsible for lifecycle management, high-performance computing (HPC) tuning, multi-protocol design, and mentoring junior engineering talent.
