Job Description: Principal Platform Engineer Hyper-V
Experience: 12+ years
Role Objective
As a Principal Platform Engineer Hyper-V, you will lead the engineering, validation, and optimization of Microsoft Hyper-V virtualization platforms to operate reliably under extreme enterprise workloads. You will identify virtualization limits, optimize performance, validate resilience, and establish engineering standards that exceed conventional enterprise deployment expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, engineer, and optimize large-scale Microsoft Hyper-V virtualization platforms.
- Perform stress, scalability, and performance testing to identify platform bottlenecks.
- Analyze virtualization latency, CPU scheduling, storage, and memory performance.
- Optimize NUMA topology, processor affinity, and memory allocation for virtualized workloads.
- Evaluate DPU/SmartNIC technologies to improve virtualization and networking performance.
- Validate cluster resilience, failover behavior, Live Migration, Storage Migration, and disaster recovery capabilities.
- Identify engineering limits and architectural exceptions beyond standard Microsoft reference architectures.
- Develop performance tuning standards, capacity planning models, and operational engineering guidelines.
- Collaborate with storage, networking, infrastructure, security, and platform engineering teams.
- Automate platform provisioning, configuration, and operational processes using PowerShell, DSC,
and Infrastructure as Code.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship for enterprise virtualization engineering initiatives.
Required Skills
- 12+ years in Infrastructure Engineering, Virtualization Engineering, or Platform Engineering.
- Extensive experience with Microsoft Hyper-V and Windows Server virtualization technologies.
- Robust understanding of Hyper-V Failover Clustering, Live Migration, Storage Spaces Direct (S2D), and Windows Server architecture.
- Expertise in virtualization performance analysis, benchmarking, and capacity planning.
- Deep understanding of NUMA architecture, CPU scheduling, memory optimization, and virtualization internals.
- Experience with enterprise networking, storage, and software-defined infrastructure.
- Knowledge of DPU/SmartNIC technologies and modern data center architectures.
- Strong PowerShell scripting and automation skills.
- Experience with monitoring, performance analysis, and enterprise observability tools.
- Experience supporting highly available, mission-critical enterprise environments.
Primary Deliverables
- Hyper-V scalability and performance benchmarks.
- Virtualization tuning standards and engineering recommendations.
- Failure-domain and resilience validation reports.
