JOB DESCRIPTION
Job title (Deputy Nursing Superintendent/ Nursing Superintendent- Nursing) (Lucknow)

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Management of Nursing Care and Practice
- Is responsible and accountable for the delivery of care provided in accordance with organization / department philosophy.
- Demonstrates skill in implementing comprehensive and thorough assessment of patient s specific need.
- Able to implement delivery of care based on research and /or current best practice.
- Ensures the skill of individual staff is matched to the individual needs of patients.
- Is responsible for the implementation of policies which enable most effective use of nursing resources.
- Ensures that all practices are within the guideline set by the department and are in accordance with organization policy.
- Ensures the implementation of all ISO/NABH standards.
- Ensures accuracy and completion of nursing documentation within the time frame
Management of Clinical Standard
- Is competent in monitoring patients rights and responsibilities being taken care by the staff assigned.
- Ensures that all staff is aware of the standards of professional behaviour expected in the unit.
- Is able to identify any factors, which might interfere with the maintenance of safe clinic standards on the unit.
- Demonstrates skill in taking necessary corrective action for the error in collaboration with the supervisor and the Department Head.
- Participates in IDTR round, works closely with the medical team and involves them in all relevant day-to-day clinical decisions.
Management of Financial Material Resources
- Demonstrates skill in assisting in identifying and dealing with potential areas/ events/ situation, which may have an impact on the financial expenditure of the ward.
- Ensures that all staff is aware of how they can contribute to the efficient management of financial and material resources.
- Manages effectively all administrative functions of the ward with respect to equipments, consumables and other material resources .
Management of Human Resources
- Responsible for the efficient use of staffing resources in the unit.
- Ensures that staffing levels are safe, appropriate and with the necessary skill mix on each shift.
- Ensures all training requirements are met by the staff as per department / organizational policy.
- Ensures that all junior staff is fully aware of their responsibilities and ensures adequate supervision at all times.
- Is responsible for participating in a fair and just appraisal.
- Implementation of all organization / department policies to Human Resources Management, including the sickness and absence policy.
- Able to delegate duties and responsibilities to staff as appropriate, in the day to day operation of the unit and to aid the development of individual staff.
Management of information and communication
- Arranges regular staff meeting involving other personnel when necessary.
- Demonstrates skill in creating an environment which is conducive to open, honest and frank discussion, in which staff feel free to represent their views and it is heard in an appropriate setting.
- Is knowledgeable in implementing and monitoring realistic and achievable objectives for the unit and team in accordance with the aim and objectives of the services.
- Attends meetings and forums representing the ward at various levels, ensuring that all staff is kept fully briefed on any new developments etc.
- Ensures that all clinical and other information is gathered, stored and passed on to relevant departments / personnel in conjunction with the departmental needs.
- Ensures that all communication (verbal or written) between the ward and other departments is of a high standard both in its content and presentation.
- Ensures that all written and electronically stored information is accessible only to authorized personnel.
- Ensures that all staff is aware of the importance of the collection of statistical data, quality indicators and ensuring that this is collected and sent to nursing office in an accurate and timely fashion.
- Reports all the incidents to the nursing office and maintains record appropriately.
Professional safety growth and development
- Assume responsibility for personal and professional growth and development through participation in in-service education programmes, work shops, departmental meetings.
- Adheres to all safety policies and safe work practices.
- Adheres to all hospital policies and procedures.
- Participants in debriefing session, meetings with Nursing Leadership, IDTR round which will enhance the quality of services provided to patient.
- Recognizes own limitation, seeks information and advice when unable to solve conflict / problems on individual basis.
- Maintains requires professional license and up-dation of registration.
- Demonstrates competency in the following areas:
- Basic competency / annual competency as lay down by the organization.
- BLS ACLS
- Fire Safety
- Infection Control
- Emergency Situations
- Proper use of biomedical equipment
- Radiation Safety
- ISO NABH Standards
- Waste Management Policy
- Others as when scheduled
- Awareness of current development and practice and best Nursing Practices.
- Acknowledges their own limitation and discuss / identifies training and development needs with the supervisors.
Management of the Environment
- Is responsible that the ward workplace is pleasant, clean comfortable and suitable for its use at all times.
- Monitors the services provided by other departments and communicate any deficits in standards and action taken to the concerned.
- Demonstrates skill in ensuring the health and safety at work is adhered to by all staff.
- Is responsible for taking immediate action to deal with any problem, which might affect patient, visitor or staff safety.
- Ensures that all equipment, furniture and fittings are kept in good working order to ensure comfort and safety to patients, visitors and staff.
- Ensures that every opportunity is used to enhance the environment for the benefit and safety of patients whenever possible and for reporting ideas for improvement to their line manager.
Other Responsibilities
- Implements systems, which invites patients and their caregivers to comment on the quality of services they receive and takes necessary action to facilitate positive changes.
- Assists the supervisor in the implementation of the complaints procedure including investigation, response and resolution.
- Ensures that the supervisor is informed of all developments and changes within the ward environment.
- Ensures safety on medication management and usage.
- M Demonstrates skill in creation and maintenance of an setting which is conducive to learning and which meets the educational standards required by educational institution whose students are placed in the ward.
- Participates in quality improvement projects within the ward.
- Ensures that all employees are subjected to the health and safety at word place.
- Requires ensuring as an employee that their work methods do not endanger other people or themselves.
- Maintains strict confidentiality in respect of patients and staff records.
- Assists in achieving the hospital aims to maintain the goodwill and confidence of its own staff, service users and the general public.
- Maintains good working relationship with all other wards and other departments.
- Ensures that at all times employees carry out their duties in a courteous and sympathetic manner.
- Carries out duties respecting the different backgrounds of colleagues, patients and others at all times.

- Has sound knowledge of current issues and evidence based Nursing practice in the care of people.

Experience Qualifications
- 12 to 18 years of experience as DNS/ ANS in a Corporate Hospital
- Healthcare is preferable
- B.Sc Nursing/ Post Basic B.Sc/ M.Sc
