To plan, schedule, monitor and coordinate the end-to-end production of pressure vessels, heat exchangers and other nuclear-grade equipment as per orders from NPCIL, BARC and other DAE/nuclear-sector clients, ensuring on-time delivery, adherence to ASME/nuclear codes and quality standards, and optimal utilization of shop-floor resources.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and maintain detailed production plans, master schedules and shop-floor routing for pressure vessels, heat exchangers, columns and other nuclear-grade fabrication jobs, in line with NPCIL/BARC purchase order and contract requirements.
Study fabrication drawings, GA drawings, welding procedure specifications (WPS/PQR) and bill of materials to plan process sequences (cutting, forming, welding, machining, NDT, heat treatment, hydro-testing).
¢ Coordinate with Design, Quality Assurance (QA/QC), NDT, Welding Engineering and Stores/Procurement to ensure timely availability of drawings, materials (SS, carbon steel, low-alloy steel,
Inconel etc.), consumables and inspection resources.
¢ Track daily/weekly production progress against plan; identify bottlenecks and initiate corrective actions to avoid schedule slippage.
¢ Plan and monitor stage-wise inspections and hold points as per Inspection Test Plans (ITP), and coordinate third-party/customer (NPCIL/BARC) inspection visits.
¢ Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (ASME Section VIII Div.1/2, ASME IX, IBR, PNGRB, AERB/nuclear quality requirements) throughout the production cycle.
¢ Prepare and update production status reports, MIS dashboards, delay analysis and manpower/machine loading charts for management review.
¢ Liaise with in-house subcontractors and outside processing agencies (forging, heat treatment, NDT labs) for outsourced operations, ensuring quality and delivery compliance.
¢ Capacity planning and man-hour budgeting for current nuclear equipment orders.
¢ Participate in root-cause analysis of production delays/non-conformances and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
¢ Maintain documentation and traceability records (Packing lists, material test certificates, weld maps, NDT reports, QAP), FIM reconciliation required for nuclear-grade equipment as per client and regulatory requirements.
Required Skills & Competencies
¢ Working knowledge of pressure vessel and heat exchanger fabrication processes rolling, welding (SAW/GTAW/SMAW/GMAW), machining, heat treatment, hydro-testing, etc.
¢ Familiarity with ASME Section VIII, ASME IX, IBR and nuclear quality assurance requirements (AERB/DAE guidelines) is highly desirable.
¢ Exposure to NPCIL/BARC or other DAE-approved vendor production environment preferred.
¢ Proficiency in production planning tools MS Project, ERP/SAP (PP module), MS Excel; PowerPoint, etc
¢ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work under tight delivery schedules.
¢ Good coordination, communication and documentation skills for interfacing with design, QA/QC, Stores, Shipping, WDS, machine shop, clients and production team.
¢ Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, weld maps and welding procedure specifications.
Desirable Certifications
¢ Certification/training in ASME Codes (Section VIII, IX) or equivalent.
¢ Exposure to Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001) and nuclear/QA-1 quality documentation.
¢ Six Sigma / Lean Manufacturing exposure (Green Belt or equivalent) added advantage.
