Role & responsibilities
The Safety Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring workplace health and safety programs to ensure a safe working environment in the manufacturing facility. This role ensures compliance with applicable safety regulations, minimizes workplace hazards, and promotes a strong safety culture across all operations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Safety Policy & Compliance
- Develop and implement safety policies and procedures aligned with legal and industry standards
- Maintain safety documentation, permits, and statutory records
2. Risk Assessment & Hazard Control
- Conduct regular hazard identification and risk assessments (HIRA)
- Implement control measures for machinery, chemicals, and processes used in tyre manufacturing
- Monitor high-risk areas such as mixing, curing, and material handling
3. Accident Prevention & Investigation
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses
- Perform root cause analysis and recommend corrective/preventive actions
- Track safety KPIs (TRIR, LTIFR, etc.)
4. Training & Awareness
- Conduct safety induction programs for recent employees and contractors
- Organize regular safety training (PPE, fire safety, emergency response, chemical handling)
- Promote safety awareness campaigns and toolbox talks
5. Emergency Preparedness
- Develop and maintain emergency response plans (fire, explosion, chemical spills)
- Coordinate mock drills and ensure readiness of emergency teams
- Ensure availability and maintenance of firefighting and first-aid equipment
6. Plant Safety Monitoring
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections
- Monitor use of PPE and safe work practices
- Ensure machine guarding, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and permit-to-work systems are followed
