Role Purpose

The Junior Quality Engineer will be responsible for carrying out hands-on quality inspection, testing and process-control activities across the manufacturing shop floor.

This is a shop-floor-oriented role requiring regular presence across production, inspection, laboratory, finishing and dispatch areas. The role is not limited to documentation or laboratory activities.

The position will work under the guidance of the QA Manager and will coordinate closely with Production, Stores, Purchase and Dispatch teams to ensure that products comply with drawings, specifications, control plans, customer requirements and internal quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. Incoming Material Inspection

- Inspect incoming raw materials, bought-out components and consumables according to approved inspection plans and specifications.
- Verify supplier test certificates, identification, quantity, condition and traceability wherever applicable.
- Record inspection results and report non-conforming incoming material.
- Clearly identify and segregate rejected or suspected material to prevent unintended use.

2. Shop-Floor Quality Inspection

- Conduct first-piece, in-process, patrol and final inspection of rubber-moulded and rubber-to-metal bonded products.
- Carry out regular shop-floor inspections during moulding, bonding, trimming, finishing, marking, packing and dispatch activities.
- Verify dimensions, appearance, hardness, weight and other specified quality parameters.
- Check products for visual defects such as surface damage, porosity, short moulding, excess flash, bonding defects, deformation and contamination.
- Ensure inspection status and product identification are maintained at every stage.
- Hold and identify suspected or non-conforming material until further disposition is provided by authorised quality personnel.
- Immediately report recurring defects, process abnormalities and specification deviations to the QA Manager and Production team.

3. Testing and Measurement

- Perform routine laboratory tests on rubber compounds and finished products according to approved test methods and specifications.
- Use instruments such as Vernier Caliper, Micrometer, Height Gauge, Dial Gauge, Shore Hardness Tester, weighing scale and other relevant testing equipment.
- Ensure instruments are handled correctly and inspection results are accurately recorded.

- Verify that only calibrated and serviceable measuring instruments are used.

4. Process Quality Control

- Verify that production activities are carried out according to approved work instructions, process parameters, control plans and product specifications.
- Monitor process compliance and identify deviations that may affect product quality.
- Record shop-floor rejection, rework and defect observations on a daily basis.
- Collect data and evidence for defect analysis, root-cause analysis and corrective-action activities.
- Follow up with Production on implementation of agreed corrective and preventive actions.
- Identify recurring defects and recommend practical actions to reduce rejection and rework.
- Participate in continuous-improvement, 5S and Kaizen activities.

5. Final Inspection and Dispatch Clearance

- Conduct final inspection of finished products before packing and dispatch.
- Verify product identification, quantity, dimensions, appearance, marking, packing and customer-specific requirements.
- Ensure that required inspection reports, test reports, certificates and quality documents are complete before dispatch.
- Escalate any deviation before dispatch clearance is issued.

6. Documentation and Quality Records

- Prepare and maintain incoming, in-process and final inspection reports.
- Maintain laboratory registers, traceability records, rejection records, rework records and non-conformance records.
- Maintain calibration records and support timely calibration of measuring and testing equipment.
- Complete inspection and quality records accurately and in real time.
- Support internal, customer and certification audits by maintaining organised and traceable documentation.
- Enter inspection and rejection data into MS Excel, ERP or other digital systems as applicable.

7. Customer and Supplier Quality

- Assist the QA Manager in investigating customer complaints and internal quality issues.
- Collect inspection records, samples, photographs and shop-floor data required for complaint investigation.
- Coordinate with Production for implementation and verification of corrective actions.
- Inspect supplier materials and report supplier-related quality deviations.

- Support follow-up of supplier corrective actions where required.

8. Quality, Safety and Compliance

- Follow the companys Quality Management System, ISO 9001 requirements, customer-specific requirements, SOPs and internal quality standards.
- Follow applicable environmental, health and safety procedures.
