Designation: Assistant Professor

Job Specification:

A. Qualification (As per National Medical Commission NMC norms)

- MD / MS / DNB in the concerned specialty from a recognized institution
- Fulfillment of minimum eligibility criteria as prescribed by NMC for the post of Assistant Professor
- Valid registration with the appropriate State / National Medical Council

B. Experience

- Teaching experience as prescribed by NMC norms for the post of Assistant Professor
- Adequate clinical experience in the concerned specialty
- Demonstrated competence in patient care, teaching, and academic activities

C. Skills and Competencies

- Sound clinical knowledge and procedural skills relevant to the specialty
- Effective teaching and communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary healthcare and academic setting
- Basic understanding of research methodology, ethics, and quality standards
- Familiarity with NABH standards and hospital policies (desirable)

- Associate Professor / Professor / Head of Unit / Head of Department – Academic matters
- Medical Superintendent – Clinical and hospital operations (as applicable)

Job Description:

The Assistant Professor is responsible for delivering quality clinical care, contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, supporting research activities, and assisting in departmental administration.



The role ensures adherence to NMC regulations patient care standards, and the policies of the Medical College and the affiliated Teaching Hospital functioning under a University / Deemed-to-be University framework.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

A. Clinical Responsibilities

- Provide safe, ethical, and evidence-based patient care in outpatient, inpatient, emergency and critical care areas, as assigned.
- Perform clinical procedures relevant to the specialty under institutional privileges.
- Supervise and guide residents and interns in patient evaluation, diagnosis, and management.
- Participate in ward rounds, specialty clinics, emergency duties, and on-call services as per duty roster.
- Ensure adherence to clinical protocols, SOPs, infection prevention practices, and patient safety guidelines.
- Promptly report adverse events, near misses, and sentinel events as per hospital policy.

B. Academic and Teaching Responsibilities

- Conduct undergraduate and postgraduate teaching as per university curriculum and NMC norms.
- Participate in bedside teaching, tutorials, seminars, journal clubs, and case presentations.
- Assist in internal assessments, practical examinations, and university examinations.
- Support mentoring and academic guidance of undergraduate students and interns.

C. Research and Scholarly Activities





- Participate in departmental and institutional research projects.
- Assist postgraduate students in data collection, literature review, and dissertation work under guidance.
- Ensure compliance with Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC) requirements.
- Contribute to publications, presentations, CMEs, workshops, and conferences.

D. Administrative Responsibilities

- Assist senior faculty in routine departmental administrative work.
- Support preparation and implementation of duty rosters, teaching schedules, and clinical service plans.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of medical records and academic activities.
- Participate in departmental meetings, academic reviews, and institutional committees when nominated.

E. Quality Management and Accreditation Responsibilities

- Support implementation of NABH standards related to patient care, safety, and documentation.
- Comply with quality indicators, audits, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Adhere to institutional policies related to infection control, biomedical waste management, and patient rights.
- Assist in preparation for inspections, audits, and accreditation visits (NMC, NABH, and University).

F. Governance, Ethics, and Professional Conduct

- Maintain high standards of professional ethics, discipline, and integrity.
- Ensure confidentiality of patient information and academic records.
- Adhere to institutional code of conduct, service rules, and university regulations.
- Assist in handling patient grievances and medico legal issues as per hospital policy.

Preferred MBBS, MS/MD, DrNB in the Department of Anaesthesia
