About the Role
As Manager QHSE, you will own quality, health, safety, and environmental performance across multiple sites in the South Region, based in Chennai. You will translate FSSAI, ISO 22000, HACCP, HIRA, EHS, client, and statutory requirements into practical operating systems that protect people, strengthen food safety, and improve service reliability. The role combines governance, audits, incident investigation, training, team leadership, reporting, and stakeholder management. You will work through site teams, corrective-action systems, risk controls, and management reviews to raise compliance and close recurring gaps. Key challenges include maintaining consistent standards across locations, building capability among frontline teams, and balancing client expectations with operational realities. Key Responsibilities
- Own QHSE policies, standards, and compliance systems across assigned sites,
translating regulatory and client requirements into consistent controls that improve food safety, workplace safety, and operational reliability.
- Lead internal, vendor, and external audits across locations, converting findings into risk-based corrective and preventive actions that achieve timely closure and strengthen certification readiness.
- Direct investigations into safety incidents, food safety events, near misses, and customer complaints, using root cause analysis to prevent recurrence and provide management with clear mitigation decisions.
- Build annual training plans, competency matrices, inductions, and awareness campaigns that improve employee capability, reinforce safe behaviors, and embed quality ownership across site operations.
- Lead and coach QHSE Executives, Senior Executives, and Assistant Managers through transparent objectives, performance reviews, and development support that improves team effectiveness and departmental delivery.
- Own QHSE relationships with clients and regulatory authorities, presenting performance reviews, resolving observations, and closing stakeholder actions to protect trust and compliance ratings.
- Deliver monthly, quarterly, and annual performance reporting, maintaining statutory records and compliance registers while using trend analysis to prioritize improvement initiatives and management decisions.
- Drive cross-site improvement projects and benchmarking across food safety, occupational safety, environmental performance, and operational excellence to raise standards beyond minimum compliance.
Essential Skills & Technologies
- Strong working knowledge of FSSAI regulations, ISO 22000, HACCP, HIRA, EHS standards, statutory compliance, and food safety management systems within multi-site operations.
- Proven capability in planning and conducting internal, vendor, client, and certification audits, with disciplined CAPA tracking and evidence-based closure of findings.
- Practical expertise in incident investigation, near-miss analysis, customer complaint review, root cause analysis,
risk assessment, and corrective-action implementation.
- Ability to design training plans, competency matrices, safety inductions, food safety programs, and awareness initiatives that translate standards into consistent frontline behaviors.
- Strong people leadership, coaching, communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills for working with site teams, clients, regulators, vendors, and senior management.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and reporting tools, with the ability to maintain compliance registers, analyze QHSE trends, and present actionable performance insights.
- Strong organizational skills for managing multiple sites, competing priorities, documentation requirements, audits, incidents, and improvement projects without compromising statutory or client commitments.
Additional Plus
- Experience in food services, hospitality, catering, manufacturing, or facility management environments, especially where food safety and operational safety standards must be applied across distributed sites.
- Exposure to environmental performance initiatives, certification management, benchmarking, and cross-functional operational excellence projects that extend QHSE impact beyond audit compliance.
- Professional certification or formal training in HACCP, ISO 22000, occupational health and safety, auditing, or related QHSE disciplines would strengthen the candidates readiness.
What You'll Bring
- 8-12 years of relevant experience in QHSE, food safety, quality assurance, or occupational health and safety, including 35 years managing teams or leading site-wide initiatives.
- A postgraduate degree in Microbiology, Food Technology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related discipline.
- A practical, systems-oriented leadership style that turns compliance requirements into measurable controls, stronger capabilities, and sustained improvement across multiple operating locations.
- Confidence engaging clients, regulators, frontline teams, vendors, and senior leaders, with the judgment to resolve issues transparently and prioritize risks that affect people, customers, and business continuity.
