Job Summary

The Customs Manager is responsible for overseeing customs clearance operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, managing profitability (PCL), and maintaining solid relationships with customs authorities, clients, transporters, and internal stakeholders. The role includes operational leadership, compliance management, team supervision, customer service excellence, and financial performance management.

Key Responsibilities

1. Customs Operations Management

- Manage end-to-end customs brokerage operations for import and export shipments.
- Ensure timely customs clearance and delivery of shipments.
- Monitor shipment status, documentation accuracy, and operational KPIs.
- Coordinate with customs authorities, shipping lines, airlines, freight forwarders, transporters, and clients.
- Resolve customs-related operational issues, inspections, holds, and disputes.
- Supervise filing of Bills of Entry, Shipping Bills, duty payments, assessments, and examination processes.
- Ensure adherence to SLA commitments and customer requirements.

2. Compliance & Regulatory Management

- Ensure full compliance with customs laws, DGFT regulations, FEMA, and other applicable trade regulations.
- Maintain valid customs licenses, permits, and statutory records.
- Conduct internal compliance audits and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure proper classification, valuation, and duty application as per customs tariff regulations.
- Monitor updates in customs notifications, trade agreements, and regulatory changes.
- Handle customs investigations, notices, queries, and departmental audits.





- Maintain SOPs and ensure operational adherence across the team.
- Ensure compliance with AEO, bonded warehouse, SEZ, EOU, and FTWZ regulations where applicable.
- Minimize compliance risks, penalties, and revenue leakage.

3. P&L; Management

- Own and manage branch/division P&L; for customs brokerage operations.
- Monitor revenue, gross profit, operating expenses, and net profitability.
- Drive revenue growth through customer retention and business development support.
- Control operational costs and improve productivity.
- Review billing accuracy, vendor costs, duty payments, and receivables.
- Ensure timely invoicing and collections from customers.
- Analyze financial reports, shipment profitability, and operational margins.
- Prepare monthly MIS, budgeting, and forecasting reports.
- Identify process improvements to enhance profitability and efficiency.

4. Team Management

- Lead, train, and mentor customs operations staff.
- Allocate workloads and monitor team productivity.
- Conduct performance reviews and skill development programs.
- Ensure proper staffing and succession planning.
- Promote a compliance-driven and customer-focused culture.

5. Customer & Stakeholder Management

- Maintain strong relationships with key customers and government authorities.
- Attend customer meetings and support onboarding of new business.
- Handle customer escalations and ensure high service levels.
- Provide advisory support on customs procedures, duty structures, and compliance requirements.
- Coordinate with internal departments including freight forwarding, transport, warehousing, and finance.
