Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Akamai Engineer to join our team and support the design, implementation, and optimization of our web performance and security architecture using Akamai technologies.

Responsibilities

- The role focuses on CDN configurations, edge computing, web application firewalls (WAF), bot management, and performance tuning to ensure a secure and seamless experience for end users.
- High level responsibilities are outlined below but work will not be limited to these responsibilities.
- Minimum 6-8 years of relevant experience in Internet technologies including TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS and web servers, managing Akamai CDN and security products.
- Configure and manage Akamai products such as Ion (for web performance) Kona Site Defender (WAF) Bot Manager Edge DNS.
- Work with DevOps, SRE, Networking, and Security teams to implement and maintain CDN and edge strategies.
- Troubleshoot Akamai-related issues including cache misconfigurations, performance bottlenecks, or security rule conflicts.
- Automate and optimize CDN configuration management using Akamai Property Manager and APIs.
- Maintain security standards and ensure compliance with security best practices using Akamai's WAF and Bot Manager.
- Serve as subject matter expert (SME) for Akamai in technical discussions and architecture planning.
- Document configurations, SOPs, and knowledge base articles for internal teams.
- Collaborate with Akamai support and account managers to resolve issues and implement new features.
- Integrate Akamai's Solutions including Dynamic Site Accelerator, Site Defender, Web Application Firewall, Global Traffic Manager, BOTMAN and more.
- Assess and analyse customers' web applications and web traffic to help identify threats and potential vulnerabilities.




- Create and implement custom web application firewall rules.
- Assist customers with DDoS and threat mitigation.
- Experience with TCP/IP network debugging with tcpdump or similar.
- Experience with data processing, Real Time Reporting and Analytics a plus.
- Working knowledge of the full software development lifecycle.
- Advanced knowledge of the internet and internet related technologies.
- Excellent business writing, presentation and communication skills.
- Own the technical components of integration project including but not limited configuration, debugging, documentation, testing, and go live support.
- Accurately scope implementation timelines for integrations.
- Identify technical risks and provide mitigation strategies.
- Review configurations with Akamai Qualified Service & Security team to ensure quality and optimization.

Required Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field.
- 6-8 years of experience managing Akamai CDN and security products.
- Hands-on experience with Akamai Control Center, Property Manager, EdgeWorkers and EdgeKV, APIs for automation (e.g., Akamai OPEN API).
- Strong understanding of web technologies (DNS, HTTP/S, TCP/IP, TLS/SSL, REST APIs).
- Experience with scripting (Python, Bash) and automation tools (Terraform, Ansible).
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools and workflows.
- Knowledge of web performance optimization and caching strategies.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Good analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
