Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced and versatile IT Operations Engineer to join our team. This is a
broad-reaching role that sits at the intersection of application support and cloud infrastructure,
making it ideal for a technically ambitious individual who thrives in a dynamic environment.
Operating as part of a Microsoft 365 organisation and leveraging a cloud-first infrastructure
approach within AWS, you will play a key role in maintaining platform reliability, supporting
business-critical applications, and driving continuous improvement across our digital estate.
Key Responsibilities
Microsoft 365 & Collaboration

Administer and optimise the Microsoft 365 environment, including Exchange Online,
SharePoint Online, Teams, and OneDrive
Manage and configure Entra ID (Azure AD), including Conditional Access, MFA, Privileged
Identity Management (PIM), and Identity Governance
Operate and tune Microsoft Defender suite (Defender for Endpoint, Defender for Identity,
Defender for Cloud Apps, Defender for Office 365)
Administer Microsoft Intune for endpoint management, including policy deployment,
compliance baselines, and device enrolment across Windows, iOS, and Android
Manage Microsoft Purview for data classification, DLP policies, retention labels, and
compliance reporting
Monitor and respond to alerts within Microsoft Sentinel, investigating incidents and tuning
analytics rules
AWS Cloud Infrastructure





Support and maintain AWS cloud infrastructure including EC2, VPC, S3, RDS, Lambda,
CloudWatch, and IAM
Assist in managing cloud costs through tagging strategies, Reserved Instance planning,
and resource rightsizing
Work within an Infrastructure-as-Code approach using tools such as Terraform or AWS
CloudFormation
Support CI/CD pipelines and assist development teams with application deployment and
environment management

Ensure cloud security posture is maintained in line with AWS Well-Architected Framework
principles and CIS benchmarks
Participate in DR and BCP activities, including RTO/RPO validation and backup verification
Application Support & Operations

Provide second and third-line support for business applications hosted both in M365 and on
AWS
Liaise with vendors and internal stakeholders to troubleshoot application issues and
manage escalations
Monitor application performance and availability, responding proactively to degradation or
outages
Maintain clear and up-to-date documentation for systems, runbooks, and operational
procedures
Contribute to change management processes, ensuring changes are tested, documented,
and communicated appropriately
Networking & Security

Support on-premises and hybrid networking including DNS, DHCP, VPN, and firewall




management
Assist in managing security tooling, vulnerability scanning, and patching cadence across
endpoints and servers
Support user access management in line with least-privilege and zero-trust principles
Skills & Experience
Essential

Demonstrable experience in an IT Operations, Systems Administration, or Platform
Engineering role

Strong working knowledge of Microsoft 365 administration across the E3/E5 feature set
Practical experience with Entra ID, Intune, and the Microsoft Defender security stack
Hands-on experience with AWS services in a production environment
Understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, VPN, firewalls)
Experience supporting and troubleshooting business applications in a hybrid or cloud
environment

Ability to read and write basic scripting (PowerShell, Python, or Bash) for automation and
operational tasks

Solid problem-solving skills and a structured approach to incident resolution
Good communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical
stakeholders
Desirable

Microsoft certifications such as MS-102, SC-300, AZ-104, or SC-200
AWS certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect Associate or AWS SysOps
Administrator
Experience with Terraform or AWS CloudFormation for infrastructure-as-code
Familiarity with ITSM tooling (e.g. ServiceNow, Jira Service Management)
Experience working within ITIL-aligned service delivery frameworks
Exposure to Microsoft Sentinel SIEM or equivalent security monitoring platforms
Knowledge of Microsoft Purview and data governance frameworks
