Role Overview
You will be responsible for delivering automotive ECU hardware designs while actively contributing to the development of the BMW TechWorks India hardware engineering capability. The role requires hands-on hardware design expertise combined with coaching and mentoring responsibilities for junior engineers.
Key Responsibilities
Hardware Design & Development
- Lead ECU hardware development from concept through production.
- Design automotive electronic hardware including: Microcontroller-based systems, Analog and mixed-signal circuits, Power supply architectures, eFuses, PMIC, Communication interfaces (CAN, LIN, Ethernet, SPI, I2C)
- Design and Review schematics, review PCB layouts for quality and manufacturability.
- Support EMC, thermal, reliability, and environmental validation activities.
- Conduct component selection and technology evaluations.
Engineering Standards & Methodologies
- Develop and maintain: Hardware design guidelines, Schematic design standards, PCB layout guidelines, Design review checklists, Hardware to Software Interface Specifications, Hardware development processes
- Drive standardization across projects and teams.
- Implement best practices for signal integrity, power integrity, EMC, and DFM/DFT.
Team Development
- Mentor and technically guide junior hardware engineers.
- Conduct design reviews and knowledge-sharing sessions.
- Support onboarding and technical upskilling initiatives.
- Contribute to competency development plans for the hardware organization.
- Cross Functional Collaboration with Embedded software, Mechanical, Functional safety, Manufacturing partners, Global BMW engineering teams
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics, Electrical, Embedded Systems, or related disciplines.
- 5–10 years of automotive hardware design experience.
- Strong expertise in: Schematic design, PCB design and reviews (multi-layer), Automotive communication interfaces, Power electronics, EMC design
- Experience with Altium (preferred), Cadence Allegro, Orcad, or Mentor Graphics.
- Understanding of: ISO 26262, ASPICE, DFMEA, FMEDA, FTA
- Robust hands on with test equipments: Oscilloscopes, Logic analyzers, Function generators, Spectrum analyzers
- Knowledge of Agile Scrum/Kanban
