Job Description: A Head of Purchase for a steel manufacturing company leads end-to-end procurement of raw materials (iron ore, coal, scrap, ferroalloys) and consumables, ensuring uninterrupted production, optimal inventory levels, and cost-effective supplier contracts. They manage vendor development, compliance, and logistics, typically requiring 10-25+ years of experience in integrated steel plants. Key Responsibilities

- Strategic Sourcing & Procurement: Develop and implement procurement strategies for raw materials (iron ore, coal, coke, alloys) and capital equipment to ensure cost-effectiveness and supply security.
- Vendor Development & Management: Identify, evaluate, and negotiate with domestic and international suppliers to establish long-term partnerships and secure competitive pricing.
- Cost Management & Analysis: Monitor market trends (e.g., LME, local market rates) and implement cost-saving initiatives (zero-base costing) to meet budgetary goals.
- Inventory & Logistics Control: Manage optimal stock levels, coordinate logistics (shipping, freight, transport), and ensure timely material delivery.
- Compliance & Risk Management:



Ensure compliance with statutory regulations, environmental standards, and company policies, including managing contracts and LC, CBG, or ABG documents.
- Team Leadership: Lead and mentor the procurement team, fostering a culture of efficiency and using ERP systems (SAP/S4 HANA).
- Cross-Functional Coordination: Work closely with production, quality, and finance teams to ensure material availability meets production targets.

Required Qualifications & Skills

- Education: B.E./B.Tech (Mechanical/Metallurgical) or Commerce graduate with an MBA in Supply Chain/Materials Management preferred.
- Experience: 15-25+ years in procurement within an integrated steel plant, manufacturing, or heavy metal industry.
- Competencies: Strong negotiation, analytical, and vendor development skills, with in-depth knowledge of steel-making materials.
- Software: Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP MM) and MS Excel.
