About Us

The Exotic Vet is India’s premier specialty hospital dedicated exclusively to exotic animals. We provide primary care and advanced referral-level care for a highly diverse caseload, including avian, reptile, small mammal, amphibian, fish and non-traditional companion animals.

Equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic and surgical infrastructure, our hospital is committed to elevating the standards of exotic veterinary care in India.

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and technically sound Associate Veterinarian to directly assist and support our Residents. This role is a practical, hands-on clinical position designed for a veterinary professional looking to build strong foundations in exotic medicine by focused execution of OPD flow, inpatient care, surgical preparation, and laboratory diagnostics.

In this role, your primary focus will be supporting the core clinical pipeline inside the hospital. Definitive treatment planning and primary client communications remain managed by the Resident, allowing you to focus deeply on technical excellence, anaesthesia monitoring, treatment execution, and patient recovery.

Key Responsibilities (In Sequence of Workflow)

OPD & Outpatient Support

- OPD Case Intake: Support the Resident during Outpatient Department (OPD) consultations by preparing patient histories, recording vital statistics, and documenting clinical histories.
- Clinical Triage: Assist in managing the daily OPD flow, ensuring that patients' information is up to date for the Lead Specialist's examination.
- Emergency Stabilisation: Assist the team in the immediate handling and basic stabilisation of emergency OPD presentations before transitioning them to a definitive care path.

Diagnostics & Laboratory Execution

- Sample Collection:

Perform routine diagnostic procedures arising from OPD setups, including blood collection, cytological sampling, and processing lab profiles.
- Imaging Assistance: Assist the vet techs with radiography and ultrasound image uploads by ensuring proper positioning and adherence to safety protocols for delicate species.

Surgical Preparation & Anaesthesia Assistance

- Peri-Operative Care: Prepare sensitive exotic species for surgery, including calculating baseline drug dosages under supervision and maintaining strict aseptic surgical protocols. Prepare notes informing the patient about surgery and presurgical requirements.
- Anaesthesia Monitoring: Safely monitor anaesthesia induction, maintenance, and recovery phases alongside the clinical team.
- Scrub-In Assistance: Provide hands-on surgical assistance to the surgeon as required during procedures.
- Write pre-, during and post-procedure notes for procedures.

Inpatient (IPD) & Critical Care Support

- Treatment Execution: Administer medications, fluid therapy, and supportive care protocols to hospitalised exotic patients precisely as directed by the surgeon.
- Patient Monitoring: Conduct structured daily health and recovery checks for inpatients, maintaining flawless electronic medical records and alerting the lead doctor to any clinical changes.
- Night Duty Coverage: Participate in the IPD rotational schedule to cover night duties, ensuring continuous monitoring, overnight medical management, and treatment execution for hospitalised patients.
- Case Continuity:

Hand over accurate case status reports between shifts to ensure seamless round-the-clock inpatient management.

Job Requirements & Qualifications

Educational & Professional Background:

- Degree: B.V. Sc. & A.H. is mandatory.
- Licensure: Valid and active registration with the Veterinary Council of India (VCI) or respective State Veterinary Council.
- Experience: 1–2 years of clinical experience. A strong aptitude for technical execution and a patient, gentle handling approach for delicate species is essential.

Core Competencies for the Posting:

- Clinical Discipline: Robust fundamental understanding of veterinary pharmacology, fluid dynamics, and general patient care.
- Operational Flexibility: Willingness and capability to handle rotational night shifts for dedicated IPD critical care.
- Team-First Mindset: Thrives in a highly structured, supportive role focused on executing directed clinical tasks efficiently.
- Operational Focus: Highly organised, detail-oriented, and comfortable working entirely within internal clinical, OPD, and laboratory operations.

What We Offer

- Structured Learning: Side-by-side practical exposure to India's leading exotic animal specialists.
- Caseload Diversity: High-volume exposure to unique avian, reptilian, and small mammal cases.
