1. Job Details
Job Title: Assistant Professor, Professor and Professor of Practice - Chemical Engineering / Materials Science and Engineering
Location: Pune
Reporting to: HOS/HOD, Department of Chemical Engineering / Materials Science and Engineering
1. Key Accountability
Academic
- Responsible to conduct lectures in core Chemical Engineering areas (e.g. Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer, Mass Transfer, Chemical Reaction Engineering, Process Dynamics and Control, Plant Design) and/or Materials Science and Engineering areas (e.g. Structure of Materials, Phase Transformations, Mechanical Behavior of Materials, Polymer/Ceramic/Composite Materials, Nanomaterials, Materials Characterization) as per the assigned workload
- Assist the Associate Professor, Professor, HOS in developing and updating the curriculum in line with process-industry, materials, and manufacturing advances and industry standards
- Active participation in academic and examination duty
- Conduct practicals in unit operations/unit processes and process simulation labs (e.g. Aspen Plus, MATLAB), as well as materials testing and characterization labs (e.g. XRD, SEM, mechanical testing, metallography), and tutorials as per the assigned schedule
- Responsible for setting up question papers
- Participate in organizing seminars, conferences, workshops, and FDPs on emerging areas such as process safety, green chemistry, sustainable process engineering, nanotechnology, smart materials, and additive manufacturing
- Understand the skills relevant to the chemical, petrochemical, materials, manufacturing, aerospace, automotive, and electronics industries and provide insights to professors and HOS
- Organize training programs for students to develop technical and soft skills relevant to plant operations, process industries, materials design, and manufacturing
- Organize industrial visits and study tours to chemical plants, refineries, process industries, foundries, and materials testing labs to give students the required exposure
Research Development
- An Assistant Professor is expected to show a high level of proficiency in research within Chemical Engineering and/or Materials Science and Engineering (e.g. process intensification, catalysis, reaction engineering, separation processes, energy and environmental engineering, nanomaterials, composites, biomaterials, functional and smart materials, materials characterization)
- Responsible to write research papers in core and allied chemical engineering and materials science areas
- Responsible for publishing papers nationally / internationally in peer-reviewed journals
- Be a co-investigator for writing research proposals for funding agencies (DST, CSIR, SERB, industry-sponsored projects)
- Encourage students to write research papers and pursue capstone/process and materials design projects
Strategic
- Support in the execution of the strategic plan of the Chemical Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering department/school
Operational
- Participate in student-related activities such as NCC, student welfare, ASG, cultural and technical events, and counseling/mentoring students
- Actively participate during the admissions of students and counsel prospective students on Chemical Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering career paths
- Responsible to work closely with students on various projects, including process/plant design, materials characterization, and product/materials design projects
- Supervise during examinations
- Actively be a part of organizing convocation
- Accompany students for industry/plant/lab visits, rural immersion programs, study tours, yoga, internships, and international tours
- Responsible to check the answer sheets of students and share the assessment with seniors for further improvement of the students
- Address student issues
- Maintain proper record of students
- Ensure adherence to laboratory,
process safety, and material-handling safety protocols during practicals
Finance and Budget
- Follow the directives of the Professors, HOS, and Dean to utilize the budget within the academic unit, including laboratory and equipment budgets
Collaborations
- Actively be a part of National Teachers Congress, Bharatiya Chatra Sansad, National Women's Parliament and other program events/program committees
- Focus on engagement with chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, materials, manufacturing, aerospace, automotive, and electronics companies for industry collaboration, placement of students, and Alumni
- Collaborate with CIAP and Marketing to have smooth student admissions and placements
1. Person Specification
Desired Qualification and Experience
- Preferably a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or an allied/relevant discipline
- Master's degree with 55% marks (or an equivalent grade on a point scale wherever grading system is followed) in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, or a relevant/allied subject from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university
- Preferably should be NET or SET or SLET qualified as conducted by UGC / GATE qualified
- A person without a Ph.D. but having a Master's Degree in a relevant branch/discipline can be considered based on their industry experience. The minimum relevant experience required is 0 to 5 years
