Job Title: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer with who can take a machine from a blank sheet to a working installation. This is not a drafting or detailing role. If you have spent your career modelling parts to someone else's specification, this will not suit you.

Key Responsibilities
Read the client requirement, challenge it where it is incomplete, and develop the concept and layout
Carry out full mechanical design, including structures, mechanisms, guarding, pneumatics and motion
Select components: size and choose pneumatic cylinders, actuators, linear guides, bearings, drives, sensors and structural sections based on load, stroke, cycle time and duty
Carry out market and vendor sourcing: research suppliers, compare specifications and pricing, download supplier CAD models and integrate them into the assembly
Produce manufacturing and assembly drawings that a machine shop can build from directly
Support build, commissioning and design changes on the shop floor

Required Skills and Experience




Designing special-purpose machines, automation equipment, jigs or fixtures. Candidates must have built machines, not just modelled parts
Auromation knowledge - PLC, EOAT, HMI, SENSORS
Robust proficiency in SOLIDWORKS or equivalent 3D CAD, including large assemblies and drawing standards
Demonstrable component selection ability. Candidates will be asked to justify components chosen on a past machine and explain the reasoning
Excellent spoken and written English. The role involves regular calls with European clients, and explicit communication is a hard requirement
Genuinely self-directed, with the ability to work with minimal supervision

Preferred Skills
Experience working with European clients or to European standards, including CE marking and machinery safety
Exposure to medtech, automotive or plastics equipment
Familiarity with GD&T; and DFM principles
