Role Description
Job Title: Procurement engineer (Copper cable design)
Location: India/Pune area
Job Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated VAVE (Value Analysis/Value Engineering) Engineer with a strong focus on Copper Cable design to join our current global Procurement engineering team. The candidate will be responsible for identifying and implementing cost reduction opportunities,
resilience and enhancing manufacturing efficiency across our Cable product lines mainly in EMEA, and in corporation with our engineers in both APAC and America. This role requires broad understanding of cable designs in our different cable types like Category cables, industrial cables, Coax cables etc. This role also requires an understanding of manufacturing processes, product development, product validation, supply chain dynamics and business cases.
Responsibilities:
- Lead VAVE initiatives specifically targeting cable and cable-materials within existing and new products.
- Design and develop new cable constructions and modify existing designs to meet specific customer requirements, industry standards, and VAVE objectives.
- Conduct detailed cost analysis identifying opportunities for material cost reduction, standardization, and alternative sourcing.
- Collaborate with design engineering, validation, compliance, procurement, manufacturing, and quality teams to identify and implement VAVE projects.
- Perform electrical, mechanical, and environmental testing on cable prototypes and production samples to validate design changes and VAVE improvements.
- Evaluate new technologies and materials for potential integration into products to improve performance, reduce cost, or enhance reliability.
- Develop and maintain a VAVE project pipeline,
tracking progress, savings, and implementation timelines.
- Participate in design reviews, providing input on material selection, manufacturability, and cost optimization.
- Work with suppliers to identify and qualify alternative materials.
- Prepare and present VAVE proposals, reports, and recommendations to management and cross-functional teams.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related technical field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in cable design and development, with a significant portion focused on copper and/or fiber optic cables.
- Proven experience and strong understanding of Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE) principles and methodologies.
- Solid knowledge of cable materials (conductors, insulations, jackets, shielding), manufacturing processes, and relevant industry standards (e.g., TIA/EIA, ISO, UL, CSA).
Skills:
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
- Language: English is a must.
- Ability to lead and influence without direct authority.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and project management skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
