We are interested in breakthroughs across artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, advanced manufacturing, semiconductors, aerospace, climate technologies, advanced materials, computing, energy and other deep technology domains.

Many of the companies that end up mattering began in research labs, engineering teams and universities long before anyone incorporated anything.

Most researchers assume they need to register a company before anyone will fund them. Usually you do not. DST's NIDHI PRAYAS runs through more than twenty centres based at IITs, NITs and research institutions, gives up to ₹20 lakh per innovator for building a prototype and up to ₹40 lakh at the Advance PRAYAS Centres for deep tech, and does not require a registered company to apply. Alongside it sit the Technology Development Board, SERB, the Startup India Seed Fund Scheme, and iDEX for anything with a defence or dual-use angle.

Three other things get decided before any money arrives, whichever way it goes.

Who owns the intellectual property. Under most institutional policies, that is your institution rather than you.

What you have already published, and when. A paper that goes out before a patent is filed can quietly end the patent.

What your institution will want in return for the licence.



That is a negotiation rather than a form.
