The Assistant Professor in General Medicine is responsible for delivering quality patient care,
teaching undergraduate and postgraduate medical students, participating in research
activities, and contributing to departmental administration. The incumbent shall perform
clinical, academic, research and administrative responsibilities in accordance with National
Medical Commission (NMC) regulations and institutional policies.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive medical care to patients in OPD, IPD, ICU and Emergency.
Diagnose and manage acute and chronic medical conditions using evidence-based practices.
Conduct daily ward rounds and supervise patient management.
Guide and supervise Senior Residents, Junior Residents and Interns during clinical duties.
Perform and supervise bedside procedures within the scope of General Medicine.
Respond to medical emergencies and ensure timely interventions.
Coordinate patient care with other clinical departments and allied healthcare professionals.
Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation and medical records.
Academic Responsibilities
Teach MBBS students, interns and postgraduate residents as per the curriculum.
Conduct lectures, tutorials, bedside clinics, seminars and practical demonstrations.
Prepare teaching plans, lesson schedules and assessment materials.
Evaluate students through internal assessments, practical examinations and viva voce.
Mentor postgraduate students in academics and clinical training.
Participate in curriculum development and academic planning.
Research Responsibilities
Conduct independent and collaborative clinical research.
Publish research papers in peer-reviewed and indexed journals.
Guide postgraduate dissertations and student research projects.
Present research papers and scientific work at conferences, CMEs, and workshops.
Participate in clinical audits and quality improvement initiatives.
Administrative Responsibilities
Assist the Head of Department in academic and administrative activities.
Participate in departmental meetings, committees, accreditation, and inspection-related work.
Ensure compliance with NMC regulations, NABH standards, and institutional policies.
Maintain departmental records, reports, and statutory documentation.
Participate in community health programmes, health camps, and outreach activities.
Perform duties assigned by the Head of Department and institutional authorities.
Educational Qualification
MBBS with MD/DNB in General Medicine from a recognised institution.
Registration with the National Medical Commission (NMC)/ State Medical Council.
Eligibility as per the latest NMC norms for the post of Assistant Professor.
Experience
As prescribed by the latest NMC regulations for appointment as an Assistant Professor in
General Medicine.
Prior teaching and clinical experience in a recognised medical college is desirable.
