Position Summary
The Assistant Manager – Finance is responsible for managing India finance operations, statutory compliance, foreign remittance reporting, accounting, banking, audit support, and management reporting for Assent’s India entity.
The ideal candidate will have robust working knowledge of Indian accounting, GST, TDS, income tax, payroll-related statutory compliance, Companies Act coordination, FEMA-related processes, FIRC/eBRC/EDPMS/SOFTEX support, audit coordination, and internal controls. The role requires collaboration with Assent’s global Finance team, India leadership, Employee Experience, Legal, external consultants, auditors, banks, company secretary, and other stakeholders to ensure timely compliance, accurate reporting, and strong process ownership.
Key Requirements & Responsibilities
India Compliance, Tax & Statutory Reporting
- Own and maintain the India compliance calendar covering GST, TDS, payroll taxes, PF, Professional Tax, Companies Act, ROC/MCA, RBI/FEMA, tax audit, statutory audit, transfer pricing, and other applicable requirements.
- Coordinate timely calculation, review, payment, and documentation of statutory dues, including GST, TDS, Professional Tax, PF, advance tax, and other statutory payments.
- Support GST compliance, including liability computation, return filing coordination, input tax credit review, GST reconciliations, e-invoicing support, and audit documentation.
- Support TDS and income tax compliance, including TDS applicability review, withholding tax remittance, TDS return filing coordination, advance tax support, tax audit schedules, and consultant query resolution.
- Coordinate Companies Act and secretarial compliance with company secretary or external consultants, including ROC/MCA due dates, board/AGM documentation, annual filings, director KYC, statutory records, and finance-related inputs.
- Review compliance outputs prepared by external consultants or service providers to ensure accuracy, completeness, timeliness, and audit readiness.
Foreign Remittance, FEMA & Banking Compliance
- Manage documentation and compliance support for foreign remittances, foreign currency receivables/payables, cross-border payments, and overseas vendor payments.
- Coordinate with banks, consultants, and internal stakeholders for Form 15CA/15CB, withholding tax evaluation, purpose code classification, FIRC, eBRC, EDPMS, SOFTEX, RBI/FEMA-related documentation, and other remittance requirements.
- Maintain trackers for foreign remittances, FIRC, eBRC, EDPMS, SOFTEX, withholding tax positions, bank submissions, export realization, and open regulatory items.
- Ensure foreign currency transactions are supported by appropriate invoices, agreements, approvals, tax documentation, bank records, and regulatory evidence.
- Support banking compliance related to foreign inward remittances, export realization, bank balance confirmations, authorized signatory confirmations, and other bank documentation.
- Identify and escalate compliance risks related to foreign payments, realization timelines, documentation gaps, tax withholding, or FEMA/RBI requirements.
Accounting Operations, Month-End Close & Reporting
- Maintain accurate books of accounts for the India entity and support day-to-day accounting entries, reconciliations, and month-end close activities.
- Record or review accruals, prepayments, depreciation, foreign exchange revaluation, intercompany entries, statutory liabilities, payroll-related entries, and other month-end adjustments.
- Prepare and review bank reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations, statutory liability reconciliations, GST/TDS reconciliations, payroll-related reconciliations, and other finance schedules.
- Support AP and vendor payment activities, including vendor master review, invoice verification, approval validation, tax treatment,
GST/TDS applicability, payment proposals, vendor reconciliations, and open item follow-up.
- Support intercompany accounting, including intercompany invoicing, transfer pricing markup support, AR tracking, receipt reconciliation, transfer pricing documentation, and coordination with global Finance and tax teams.
- Maintain the fixed asset register and support asset capitalization, tagging, depreciation, retirements, disposals, physical verification, and related reporting.
- Prepare monthly MIS reports, cost analysis, cash requirement updates, statutory obligation summaries, reconciliation reports, and management reporting required by Assent leadership or global Finance.
Audit, Controls & Process Improvement
- Coordinate statutory audit, tax audit, transfer pricing audit, internal audit, and other applicable audits, including audit schedules, supporting documentation, balance confirmations, financial statements, and auditor query responses.
- Maintain audit-ready files for GST, TDS, income tax, payroll statutory compliance, foreign remittances, FEMA/RBI support, bank reconciliations, vendor payments, expenses, intercompany balances, and balance sheet accounts.
- Track audit open items and ensure timely closure within statutory and internal deadlines.
- Support documentation, standardization, and transition of selected India finance activities from external service providers to improve internal ownership, controls, and audit readiness.
- Create SOPs, checklists, trackers, and maker-checker workflows for recurring finance and compliance activities.
- Identify activities that can be managed internally versus those requiring specialist consultant support due to technical, legal, statutory, or regulatory complexity.
- Improve internal controls, documentation discipline, approval workflows, compliance tracking, and process ownership for India finance operations.
- Support automation and process improvement initiatives to reduce manual effort, improve accuracy, and strengthen control over India finance activities.
