Senior Consultant / Head of Department - Paediatric Hematology Oncology
Job Summary
The Junior Consultant will provide comprehensive care to children with hematological disorders and childhood cancers. The role involves inpatient and outpatient clinical managementemergency carechemotherapy administrationmultidisciplinary collaborationteachingand participation in quality improvement and research activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluatediagnoseand manage children with benign and maligt hematological disorders.
- Assess and treat pediatric oncology patients in outpatient clinicsinpatient wardsand emergency settings.
- Develop individualized treatment plans in accordance with established clinical protocols.
- Supervise and administer chemotherapy safely as per institutional guidelines.
- Perform or assist in procedures such as:
- Bone marrow aspiration and biopsy
- Lumbar puncture with intrathecal chemotherapy
- Central venous access management (where credentialed)
- Manage supportive careincluding:
- Blood and blood product transfusions
- Febrile neutropenia
- Tumor lysis syndrome
- Pain and palliative care
- Participate in multidisciplinary tumor board discussions.
- Counsel patients and families regarding diagnosistreatment optionsprognosisand follow-up.
- Maintain accurate medical records and clinical documentation.
- Participate in departmental auditsresearchand quality improvement initiatives.
- Teach and supervise junior doctorsresidentsnursesand medical students.
- Participate in on-call duties and provide emergency coverage as per departmental roster.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policiesinfection controlpatient safetyand accreditation standards.
