Role Overview
As a Staff - Backend Developer, you ll drive the technical vision, architecture, and execution of our backend services powering critical cybersecurity solutions. You ll lead a team of developers, collaborate cross-functionally, and ensure our systems are scalable, performant, and secure. This is a high-impact role where you ll combine hands-on development with technical leadership and mentoring.
Responsibilities
- Own the technical roadmap and architecture for backend systems and full-stack integrations.
- Lead the design and development of scalable, high-performance microservices and RESTful APIs.
- Collaborate closely with front-end teams to build seamless end-to-end experiences using React/TypeScript.
- Champion engineering excellence by enforcing best practices in code quality, security, performance, and reliability.
- Lead technical planning, backlog grooming, and code reviews to ensure alignment with product and business goals.
- Drive system design discussions, make architectural decisions, and guide teams through technical trade-offs.
- Partner with DevOps, Security, and Product teams to ensure efficient, secure, and observable systems.
- Lead incident response and root cause analysis, and implement improvements to increase system resilience.
- Mentor and coach developers across experience levels, fostering a culture of growth, innovation, and accountability.
- Continuously improve team processes and tools, supporting Agile methodologies and DevSecOps practices.
Requirements
- 8+ years of backend development experience, with 2+ years in a technical leadership or lead developer role.
- Expertise in object-oriented programming languages such as Java/Python/GO.
- Robust knowledge of microservices architecture, RESTful APIs, and distributed system design.
- Experience with relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, DynamoDB).
- Proficiency in performance tuning, asynchronous programming,
and multithreading.
- Hands-on experience with messaging systems such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or SQS.
- Solid grasp of security principles including authentication, authorisation, and secure coding practices.
- Proficiency with AWS services such as Lambda, API Gateway, S3, DynamoDB, and ECS.
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Experience with containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes/ECS) and cloud-native architecture.
- Familiarity with CI/CD, DevOps practices, and Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).
- Passion for cybersecurity and interest in security operations.
- Strong Git proficiency and experience managing branching strategies and code collaboration workflows.
- Experience working across the stack, with a solid understanding of React/TypeScript front-end architecture.
