ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supplier Industrialization Execution
- Support industrialization of metal components and assemblies at suppliers, ensuring readiness for production scale-up.
- Partner with suppliers to develop and validate manufacturing processes including machining, forging, and casting.
- Execute APQP, PPAP, and product/process qualification activities for new product launches.
- Identify and mitigate technical risks during product development and launch phases.
- Support supplier selection through evaluation of technical capabilities, capacity, and process maturity.
Metals Materials & Process Engineering
- Provide technical expertise in machining, forging, casting, and metallurgical processes.
- Support development and optimization of processes such as CNC machining, heat treatment, forming, and finishing.
- Evaluate material selection, including alloys, heat treatments, and surface treatments, based on performance and manufacturability requirements.
- Analyze metallurgical properties (microstructure, hardness, strength, fatigue) and their impact on product performance.
- Troubleshoot manufacturing issues including dimensional variation, defects, tool wear, porosity, distortion, and surface finish.
Design for Manufacturability (DFM)
- Partner with Product Engineering to ensure designs are optimized for manufacturability and cost-effective production.
- Conduct tolerance stack-up analysis and support GD&T; interpretation and application.
- Provide input on machining strategies, casting design (draft angles, gating, risers), and forging processes.
Global Collaboration
- Collaborate with Engineering, Procurement,
and Quality teams across regions to ensure successful product launches.
- Travel to supplier sites as required (2040%).
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPECTATIONS:
Experience
- 5 to 10 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, metals processing, or supplier industrialization.
- Hands-on experience with machining, forging, casting, and/or metal forming processes.
- Experience supporting new product development (NPD/NPI) and supplier launch activities.
- Experience working directly with suppliers in industrial or high-volume manufacturing environments.
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Metallurgy, or related field required.
Skills and Capabilities
- Strong English communication skills (Verbal and written - technical)
- Strong knowledge of machining processes (CNC, turning, milling) and tooling strategies.
- Experience with forging and casting processes, including defect analysis and process controls.
- Understanding of metallurgy, including material properties, heat treatment, and microstructure.
- Proficiency in GD&T;, tolerance analysis, and dimensional control.
- Strong foundation in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) for metal components
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience in statistical analysis methods (SPC, DOE, capability analysis).
- Ability to diagnose and resolve complex manufacturing and process issues.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across cross-functional and supplier teams.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a rapid-paced, global environment.
- Detail-oriented with strong technical documentation and reporting capabilities.
- Self-motivated and results-driven with a continuous improvement mindset.
