Job Summary
The Assembly Manager will be responsible for managing end-to-end assembly operations for instrumentation and electronic products. The role requires strong technical expertise in electronics assembly, production planning, process improvement, quality systems, and people management. The candidate will lead assembly teams, optimize manufacturing processes, ensure adherence to quality standards, and achieve production targets while maintaining safety and operational efficiency.
This position demands a hands-on leader who can effectively collaborate with Production, Engineering, Quality, Procurement, Stores, Supply Chain, and Management teams to deliver customer commitments.
Key Responsibilities
Assembly Operations Management
- Lead and manage day-to-day assembly operations to meet production schedules and customer delivery requirements.
- Ensure achievement of daily, weekly, and monthly production targets.
- Oversee assembly of instrumentation products, electronic control panels, PCB assemblies, sensors, transmitters, controllers, and related systems.
- Monitor assembly processes and identify opportunities to improve productivity and efficiency.
- Ensure proper allocation of manpower, machines, tools, and resources.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across assembly lines.
Team Leadership & People Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of supervisors, engineers, technicians, and operators.
- Conduct performance reviews and capability assessments.
- Implement skill development programs and technical training initiatives.
- Build a culture of accountability, ownership, teamwork, and operational excellence.
- Resolve workforce issues and maintain healthy employee relations.
- Manage a team size of 200–300 members depending on operational requirements.
Production Planning & Control
- Coordinate with planning and supply chain teams for material availability.
- Review production schedules and ensure timely order execution.
- Monitor Work-in-Progress (WIP) and optimize production flow.
- Ensure adherence to production timelines and dispatch commitments.
- Develop strategies to minimize downtime and improve throughput.
Technical & Process Excellence
- Establish and optimize assembly processes for instrumentation and electronics products.
- Drive Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, 5S, and productivity improvement initiatives.
- Implement process standardization and SOP compliance.
- Analyze root causes of process inefficiencies and implement corrective actions.
- Support NPI (Recent Product Introduction) activities and engineering change management.
Quality Management
- Ensure compliance with ISO standards, quality procedures, and customer requirements.
- Work closely with QA/QC teams to minimize defects and rework.
- Monitor quality KPIs, First Pass Yield (FPY), rejection rates, and customer complaints.
- Drive CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Actions) implementation.
- Ensure product reliability and compliance with specifications.
Inventory & Material Management
- Coordinate with Stores and Procurement teams for seamless material flow.
- Monitor inventory utilization and reduce material wastage.
- Ensure FIFO practices and inventory accuracy.
- Maintain optimal stock levels to avoid production interruptions.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) regulations.
- Promote safe work practices across assembly operations.
- Conduct safety audits and risk assessments.
- Ensure regulatory and statutory compliance requirements are met.
Reporting & Performance Monitoring
- Prepare and present production MIS and operational reports.
- Monitor KPIs including:
- Productivity
- OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness)
- On-Time Delivery
- Rejection & Rework Rates
- Assembly Cycle Time
- Cost Reduction Metrics
- Manpower Utilization
- Present improvement initiatives and operational performance to management.
Desired Candidate Profile
Educational Qualification
- B.E./B.Tech in:
- Electrical & Electronics Engineering (EEE)
- Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE)
Experience
- 8–15 years of relevant experience in assembly manufacturing operations.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in leading teams and managing assembly functions.
- Experience in instrumentation, industrial electronics, automation products, control systems, or electronic manufacturing industries preferred.
- Exposure to medium-volume manufacturing environments is highly desirable.
