Role & responsibilities
- Ensure uninterrupted operation of generators, turbines, and all associated electrical systems during the shift.
- Monitor all operating parameters of power plant equipment and ensure operation within safe and specified limits.
- Carry out shift-wise start-up, shutdown, synchronization, and load sharing operations as per SOP.
- Supervise control room and field operators to ensure equipment checks, rounds, and timely logging of operational data.
- Coordinate with the main plant operations team to meet power demands effectively.
- Identify abnormalities or deviations and take immediate corrective action to prevent downtime or equipment damage.
- Ensure proper fuel management including monitoring of fuel tank levels and consumption during the shift.
- Implement electrical safety practices including LOTO, earth switching, and adherence to safe work procedures.
- Coordinate with maintenance teams for planned or emergency maintenance activities during the shift.
- Maintain shift logbook with detailed entries on operations, breakdowns, maintenance activities, and communication with other departments.
- Conduct toolbox talks and ensure shift crew adherence to PPE usage and safety guidelines.
- Carry out basic troubleshooting and escalate major issues to Deputy Manager or AGM CPP.
- Ensure readiness of emergency power systems and perform periodic checks of backup systems (DG sets, UPS, etc.).
- Participate in emergency response and power restoration activities as per contingency procedures.
- Handover shift with proper communication of plant condition, pending issues, and operational instructions.
Preferred candidate profile
- Education: B.E. in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
- Experience: Minimum 5-6 years of hands-on experience in a power plant.
- Mandatory Requirement: Valid Boiler Operation Engineer (BOE)/Boiler Certificate.
Technical Skills:
- Robust knowledge of boiler operations and maintenance.
- Hands-on experience with DCS (Distributed Control System) operations.
- Familiarity with power plant equipment, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and safe operating practices.
Preferred Competencies:
- Ability to monitor and optimize plant performance.
- Good understanding of safety standards and statutory compliance related to boiler and power plant operations.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
