Role & responsibilities
- Understand and translate customer requirements into workable automation concepts, especially for low-cost automation (LCA) solutions
- Prepare process flow charts, concept layouts, and cycle-time studies for proposed automation systems
- Design SPMs (Special Purpose Machines), jigs, and fixtures for welding, assembly, and material handling applications
- Develop 2D and 3D designs/models using CAD software for machines, fixtures, and automation cells
- Support simulation studies (robot reach, cycle time, layout validation) for proposed solutions
- Collaborate closely with the sales team to prepare technical proposals, budgetary estimates, and design justifications for customers
- Visit customer sites to understand shop-floor constraints, gather requirements, and support installation/commissioning as needed
- Coordinate with fabrication, procurement, and assembly teams to ensure designs are manufacturable and cost-effective
- Prepare BOMs, GA drawings,
and technical documentation for internal and customer use
- Support after-sales technical queries and design modifications based on customer feedback
Preferred candidate profile
- Bachelor's degree/Diploma in Mechanical/Mechatronics/Production Engineering
- Solid hands-on experience in 2D (AutoCAD) and 3D (SolidWorks/Creo/CATIA/NX) design
- Working knowledge of SPM design, jig & fixture design, and low-cost automation concepts
- Understanding of robotic welding cells, material handling systems, and conveyor design is a plus
- Familiarity with simulation tools (RobotStudio, Process Simulate, or similar) preferred
- Good communication skills to interact directly with customers and cross-functional teams
- Willingness to travel for customer visits, site surveys, and project support
- Basic understanding of GD&T;, tolerance stack-up,BIW, and manufacturing processes
