The Logistics & Packhouse Manager is responsible for overseeing end-to-end export logistics and daily packhouse operations for fresh fruits and vegetables. The role ensures efficient product flow from farm intake to international shipment while maintaining quality, compliance, and cost control. The position requires strong operational leadership and experience in fresh produce handling for EU and UK markets.

Key Responsibilities

1. Export Logistics Management

- Manage air and sea freight bookings.
- Coordinate with freight forwarders and shipping lines.
- Prepare and verify export documentation (Invoice, Packing List, Phytosanitary Certificate, AWB/Bill of Lading).
- Ensure timely customs clearance and shipment dispatch.
- Coordinate pre-alerts with EU import partners.

2. Cold Chain & Transport Coordination

- Supervise pre-cooling and storage temperatures.
- Manage refrigerated truck dispatch to airport/port.
- Monitor temperature logs and shipment conditions.
- Ensure compliance with destination country requirements.

3. Inventory & Traceability

- Maintain real-time stock records.
- Implement batch coding and traceability systems.
- Reconcile intake vs packed vs rejected volumes.
- Control packaging material inventory.

4. Packhouse Operations Management

- Oversee daily packhouse activities (intake, grading, sorting, packing, dispatch).
- Maintain cold chain integrity from harvest to shipment.
- Monitor packhouse KPIs (yield %, rejection %, packing speed, labour productivity).
- Implement SOPs for hygiene, traceability, and quality control.
- Supervise quality control checks before export.

Team Management

- Supervise packhouse supervisors and logistics staff.
- Manage workforce planning based on harvest forecast.
- Conduct training on quality, hygiene, and handling.
- Enforce discipline and safety procedures.

6. Cost Control & Reporting

- Monitor logistics costs (air freight, sea freight, trucking).
- Control packhouse operational expenses.
- Prepare weekly operational reports (shipment volumes, yield reports, rejection analysis, freight cost per kg).
- Recommend process improvements to reduce losses.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelors degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Agriculture, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years experience in fresh produce export operations.
- Strong knowledge of EU/UK import procedures.
- Experience managing packhouse operations.
- Knowledge of phytosanitary and customs documentation.
- Robust leadership and team management skills.
- Proficiency in Excel and reporting tools.

Preferred Experience

- Experience with okra, chilli, bitter gourd, beans, or tropical vegetables.
- Experience in air freight exports.
- Familiarity with Belgian/Dutch import processes.
- Experience working with GlobalG.A.P. and SMETA audits.

Working Conditions

- Based in packhouse facility in Ghana or Senegal.
- Extended hours during peak harvest/export periods.
- Occasional travel to farms, airport, and port.
