A Neuro Technician (or Neurodiagnostic/EEG Technician) must have a combination of formal medical education, clinical testing skills, and patient care capabilities. The requirements vary based on the clinical workplace, ranging from entry-level hospital screening to complex laboratory research.
Educational Qualifications
- Diploma Route: A 1-to-2-year Diploma in Neurotechnology or B.SC Neurotechnology
- EEG/ENMG Technology from a recognized medical institute.
- Degree Route: A B.Sc. or Bachelors degree in Neurophysiology, Neuroscience, or Allied Health Sciences.
- Core Technical Skills
- Diagnostic Modalities: Hands-on proficiency in performing EEGs (Electroencephalograms), EMGs (Electromyograms), and NCS/NCV (Nerve Conduction Studies)
- Advanced Testing: Familiarity with Evoked Potential studies like VEP (Visual Evoked Potential) and BERA (Brainstem Evoked Response Audiometry).
- 10-20 Electrode Placement: Knowledge of the international 10-20 system to accurately measure and place electrodes on a patient's head.
- Equipment Operation: Routine calibration, software troubleshooting, and sterilization of sensitive neurodiagnostic hardware
