Role Description The Senior Scientist, Downstream will support the development and optimization of downstream processing for biopolymers at BacAlt's on-site facility in Bengaluru. Day-to-day work includes designing and executing purification and separation experiments, scaling up downstream processes from lab to pilot scale, and analyzing process performance using appropriate analytical methods. The intern will document experimental protocols and results, contribute to troubleshooting and continuous process improvement, and collaborate closely with upstream, analytical, and product development teams.



This on-site internship role offers hands-on exposure to industrial biotechnology workflows and the opportunity to contribute to sustainable materials innovation.

Qualifications

- Strong foundation in biotechnology, biochemical engineering, chemical engineering, or a related discipline, preferably at the master's or advanced bachelor's level.
- Knowledge of downstream processing operations such as filtration, centrifugation, chromatography, and drying, along with basic understanding of biopolymer purification.
- Hands-on experience with laboratory techniques, process analytics, and data interpretation using tools such as spectrophotometry and basic statistical analysis.
- Ability to design and execute experiments, maintain accurate records, and prepare clear technical reports or presentations.
- Effective collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work safely and efficiently in an on-site, cross-functional lab environment.
- Interest in sustainable materials, circular economy concepts, and translating research into practical industrial applications.
- Prior internship or project experience in bioprocessing, downstream development, or biomaterials is advantageous but not required.
