Associate - Asia Payroll (India)
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and visionary Software Engineer to join our HR Technology group. This role is pivotal in designing and implementing modern technology solutions that support the organization’s global Human Resources (HR) functions. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in HR systems and workforce technology, a proven track record of leading development teams, and experience architecting solutions that integrate custom applications with enterprise HR SaaS platforms.
As the Software Engineer, you will define the technical strategy, lead the development of scalable and secure systems, and ensure alignment with global HR and workforce management requirements. You will also play a key role in fostering a collaborative, high‑performing team environment, creating technical roadmaps, and driving the vision and strategic planning for HR technology solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Key responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Independently manage India payroll operations and serve as the primary point of contact for payroll‑related matters.
- Perform payroll data entry and coordinate with payroll providers to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing for India, while supporting APAC and EMEA payroll activities as needed.
- Partner with HR, Finance, and external payroll providers to ensure timely and accurate payroll inputs, including HRIS updates and expense submissions.
- Reconcile payroll reports and outputs against supporting documentation to ensure accuracy and obtain appropriate internal approvals.
- Review monthly payroll journal entries to ensure payroll transactions are accurately recorded in the general ledger.
- Ensure compliance with local payroll tax regulations and statutory requirements, including timely filing and payment of all payroll‑related taxes and reports.
- Maintain payroll and tax documentation in accordance with audit and regulatory compliance requirements, and support internal or external audit requests.
- Monitor changes in payroll tax and employment regulations across Asia and assess the impact on payroll processes and compliance.
- Review and improve payroll processes, procedures, and reporting, ensuring appropriate controls are maintained and recommending enhancements where needed.
- Support HRIT system improvements and payroll‑related system enhancements.
- Respond to employee inquiries related to payroll matters in a timely and professional manner.
Qualifications
Blackstone seeks to hire individuals who work well in a team-driven working group, are highly motivated, intelligent, have sound judgment and have demonstrated excellence in prior endeavors.
The successful candidate should have:
- 5+ years of payroll experience in India, with strong knowledge of regional and local payroll practices, including tax regulations, pension schemes, tax optimization programs, reimbursement policies, and HR complexities. Payroll experience in other countries is a plus.
- Knowledge of India actuarial valuation processes for gratuity and leave encashment is a plus.
- Strong analytical skills; detail-oriented and highly organized.
- Skilled at meeting deadlines and performing effectively under tight time constraints.
- Demonstrated experience in analyzing and resolving payroll issues.
- Experience with Workday, Dayforce, or other SaaS payroll platforms is a plus.
- High proficiency in Excel
- Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills across all levels
- Possess a solid work ethic, ethical and professional integrity, and a positive attitude
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Knowledge of an additional Asian language a plus
