Our client is seeking a Staff Engineer to lead backend architecture and drive platform

Position Overview

As Staff Engineer, you will lead backend architecture for a SaaS-first, event-driven platform

serving industrial operations at scale. You'll own the design and reliability of core data

systems, event-driven integrations and data flows connecting mobile apps, IoT devices,

backend services and ERP systems. This role combines hands-on technical leadership

with mentorship, requiring you to balance pragmatic decision-making under ambiguitywith building systems that support analytics and AI-driven features. Your work directly

impacts how customers manage mission-critical inventory operations.

Responsibilities

• Lead backend architecture design for scalable,



event-driven SaaS platform

handling high-volume data

• Design and build core backend services using TypeScript, Node.js and Python

• Own data systems across PostgreSQL and MongoDB, ensuring consistency and

performance at scale

• Build and maintain event-driven integrations using Kafka, message queues and

event bridges

• Design reliable data flows between mobile apps, IoT devices, backend services and

ERP systems

• Support analytics and AI-driven features through thoughtful data pipeline and

inference workflow design

• Ensure system reliability through idempotency, retry logic, failure handling and

observability practices

• Mentor junior engineers and establish backend engineering standards and best

practices

• Collaborate closely with frontend, IoT and product teams to deliver integrated

solutions

• Make pragmatic technical decisions balancing performance, cost and reliability at

scale

Requirements

Essential experience:

• 7 to 10 years of strong backend engineering experience

• Deep hands-on experience designing and building distributed systems and event-

driven architectures

• Strong proficiency in Node.js, TypeScript and Python

• Proven experience with Kafka, message queues or similar asynchronous systems

• Solid understanding of data consistency, scalability and system design principles

• Experience building enterprise-grade SaaS platforms from scratch or early stage

• Exposure to analytics, data platforms or AI/ML-enabled systems• Comfortable leading technically and mentoring junior developers

• Startup mindset: ownership, pragmatism and ability to build under ambiguity

Desirable experience:

• Experience integrating with ERP systems such as D365 or SAP

• Background in IoT, high-volume event ingestion or real-time systems

• Experience optimising performance, cost and reliability at scale
