Role & responsibilities

The Shift In Charge is responsible for supervising and coordinating slag pit operations during their assigned shift. This includes overseeing slag evacuation, cooling, transportation, scrap recovery, and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards.

Responsibilities
Handle and evacuate slag and skull (solidified slag) from pits to processing or dumping yards.
Safety & Compliance
Follow strict safety protocols when working around hot slag and water systems.
Ensure slag dumping occurs in designated areas to avoid hazards.
Organize and manage slag pit activities to meet production schedules.
Supervise operators, technicians, and support staff during the shift.
Ensure smooth slag evacuation and handling from furnaces.

Preferred candidate profile




Knowledge of hydraulic systems and dewatering equipment.
Ability to work in high-temperature, industrial settings.
Robust focus on safety and environmental compliance.
Maintain records of slag volumes, recovery rates, and shift activities.
Prepare daily shift reports for management review.
Track equipment usage and downtime.
Assign tasks and monitor performance of shift staff.
Provide on-the-job training and guidance to operators.
Resolve operational issues and escalate major concerns to senior management.
Requires use of PPE and strict adherence to safety protocols.
