The Medical Transcriptionist is responsible for accurately transcribing physicians dictated discharge summaries into explicit, complete, and standardized medical documents. The role requires robust knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, pharmacology, and healthcare documentation standards while maintaining strict patient confidentiality.

Responsibilities
Transcribe physicians dictated discharge summaries with high accuracy.
Edit and proofread transcribed documents for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and medical terminology.
Ensure documentation is complete, accurate, and follows hospital or client guidelines.
Verify patient demographics, diagnoses, procedures, medications, and follow-up instructions.
Flag incomplete or unclear dictations for physician clarification.
Meet daily productivity and turnaround time (TAT) targets.
Maintain compliance with patient confidentiality and applicable healthcare privacy regulations.
Use transcription software, speech recognition tools, and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems effectively.
Maintain quality standards with minimal errors.
Medical terminology knowledge

Experience transcribing discharge summaries, operative reports, history physicals, consultation notes, and clinic notes.

Skills

Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent (Associates degree preferred).
Certification or training in Medical Transcription is preferred.
2 5 years of medical transcription experience (discharge summaries preferred).
Excellent English grammar, spelling, and typing skills.
Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and diagnostic procedures.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and transcription software.
Typing speed of 50 70 WPM with high accuracy.
