About the Role
ZEISS is looking for a skilled Linux Build Engineer to design, integrate, and maintain Linux build and release infrastructure. You will work on Linux platform enablement, CI/CD automation, and image delivery for enterprise/data-center-class systems, while aligning with upstream open-source best practices.
Key Responsibilities
Build and maintain Linux OS images using Yocto, Buildroot, CMake, and Makefiles.
Develop and optimize CI/CD pipelines for build, test, and release workflows.
Drive Linux distribution integration and platform scalability.
Troubleshoot complex issues across kernel, userspace, and firmware.
Support Linux hardening, performance tuning, and kernel configuration.
Manage packaging, deployment, release, and installation documentation.
Collaborate with internal teams, distribution partners, and upstream communities.
Must-Have Skills
Solid hands-on experience with Yocto/Buildroot, Makefiles, and Linux build systems.
Strong scripting skills in Bash and Python.
Experience with Git/GitHub and CI/CD tools (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or GitLab CI).
Positive knowledge of Linux user/file system administration and debugging.
Experience in release management and Docker-based build environments.
Solid problem-solving and communication skills.
Good to Have
Debian/RPM packaging, SBOM, and secure build/signing.
Exposure to ACPI, UEFI, kconfig, and BSP/platform enablement.
Experience with QEMU/KVM, Docker, and Kubernetes.
Contributions to upstream Linux kernel/userspace projects.
Qualifications
Graduate degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, or a related discipline.
8+ years of experience in software build engineering, release, and deployment.
